Guide
Hey guys,

Somebody recently asked me to suggest a graphics card for a system running AMD Athlon II X2 250 with 2GB RAM. The guy needs to run few games on his rig with mediocre settings with not really high res. He wanted that the rig should be able to play COD: BO/BO2, NFS: MW and the other latest games. He has a budget of 5K with not a big margin to stretch He can either buy from NP a new product or can buy a second hand thing from the net.

I am sure he doesn't have a decent PSU also so add that too to the same budget. So now with a budget of max 6K what will you guys advise. If there is something available on TE inside this price range. This is a small kid who wants to enjoy games.

Thanks in advance

A used HD5670 should do the trick. The card is also very light when it comes to power requirements and should manage to run alright on generic PSUs. However, lest you assume i am suggesting that path, grab any good PSU in the 2K range (FSPs, Gigabytes and the likes) and you are good to go. A used HD5670 can be had for under 3K and coupled with a new PSU, both purchased can be fitted into the 5K budget limit.

One word of advice- Do upgrade RAM beforehand, 2GB is too less these days, which will make your friend suffer eventually.

PS: RAM is dirt cheap now, so get minimum 4GB kit.

as jugga has already mentioned 2GB is very less...if you are running win7 then you definitely need to have 4gb to have descent all round perfomance...a 2nd hand HD5770 can be had for ~3k-3.5k as is a very solid card and consumes less power for low res...so you only need to buy a good psu as eternomind has already suggested FSP or gigabyte...

I dont see a lot of gfx cards on TE for sale. What other places would you refer.

If it's not too urgent, you can always try putting up a WTB thread and see what offers you get.
Alternatively, TheITwares has listed the HD6670 1GB DDR3 version at 4.9K. That is a very good price and you can bundle that with an SMPS from VIP or Zebronics. Suggesting those brands strictly because of the budget constraint or else the FSP Saga II 350 W is the one to go for.
