Guys,

Need your help for setting up Internet, File & Printer Sharing in our office.

Current setup is as per below.

We have three laptops & four desktops in our office. In one desktop we have one on board lan card and one extra lan card in one desktop. right now connecting bsnl broadband from on board lan card and then sharing internet from another lan card to Netgear WRG xxx wifi router.

We are using internet connection in all laptops and desktops with wifi adapter but we are not able to share printers/files over wifi sine other computers on same network with same workgroup are not showing up.

File and Printer Sharing is on for all computers.

All laptops and desktops are with automatic IP settings for wifi connection.

IP address of main desktop is 192.168.0.1 and others are defined automatically.

What changes should i do to share printers and files over wifi.

Operating Systems on Desktops are Windows XP and Windows 7 and Vista on Laptops.

Please advice/suggest

Thanks in advance.

Wouldn't it be simpler to connect the Netgear router to modem directly? That would greatly simplify your network setup. Unless, of course, there is some reason why you want it this way.

Can you please explain how?

I agree with Edrill, Connect directly.avoid the ICS mess. if you wireless router does not have enough lan ports, get a 4 or 8port hub. with this method each computer will be able to see another and share files and printers without any issues. via Wireless you can connect any number of Computers and via LAN cable, it depends on how many lan port your wireless router has. Since you haven't posted exact model no, I can't tell.

Good Luck

Thanks for your reply Gaurish.

Wireless Router: Netgear WRH 54G

BSNL Broadband: ZXDSL 831AH

There is only one lan port in ZXDSL which i have connected to Desktop for connecting the Internet with dial-up connection.

We have connected all desktops also over wifi only.

Do i need to setup ZXDSL in auto login mode if i wants to setup as above?

Please advice/comment.

Hi,

Connect ZXDSL 831AH with Netgear WRH 54G with Lan port. Now either you can put ZXDSL in auto login mode(PPPoE) or can use Netgear wireless router to Dial the connection for you.

In both case, all PC would be able to connect over wireless and do sharing of files and printers

How can i use Netgear Wireless Router to Dial the Connection?

I will have to connect Lan Cable from ZX DSL to Netgear's Which Port?
There is 1 x Blue Internet Port and 4 x Yellow Lan Ports.
Currently it is connected to Blue Internet Port.

Connect the Wifi(internet port) with modem(lan port) using the cable that came with your wifi router(not the cable that you are using to connect your pc). Now the best would be to set your modem in PPPoE(automatic dial) mode. Otherwise you can visit the Wifi page(default 192.168.2.1 - if not refer to the manual) and visit "WAN Connections" page to set up the dialer. The best is to use the CD(if any) to configure. Everything will be done automatically.

After setting it up connect your devices wirelessly or use Wifi's LAN Port(with the cable that you are using presently)

Thanks for your reply.

I do not want to setup automatic dial mode so will find out the CD and try it.

Hope it will work.

Update: Problem

Guys,

From last few days i am facing internet disconnecting issues with Netgear WRH 54G and from last 2 days i am not able to use the internet over wifi through same router. (wifi is working properly but can not surf the internet)

I tried to use the internet with BSNL Modem and internet is working perfectly but not over wifi with router.

I reset the Modem & Router to factory settings and reconfigured but still i am not able to use the internet over wifi.

On router configuration page status shows that it is internet is disconnected. I tried to connect manually also but i am not able to surf the internet.

Please help.

Thanks.
