Hey guys, I am looking at importing Sony MDR-EX1000 IEMs from Japan. Can anyone tell me how much duty/octroi I will need to pay on these ? Their value is 590$

Can't you get from US where prices have already dropped? There are a few sellers here and there who sell for $360 or so.
If you want to buy from Japan, first contact Musica Acoustics and see if Dimitri has it. He provides good customer service and would under-value the package.
Or get it from Amazon Japan, forward it to Tenso and get it delivered. I guess they too would under-value the item. Follow the procedure listed here - JVC HA-FXT90 Appreciation Thread and Buying Guide

I've not heard the IE8, so can't compare. I can only guess that bass on IE8 would have much bigger quantity in mid-bass, probably the mids are a bit more recessed with IE8. But, that's the maximum I can speculate based on reading alone.
