Hello,

One of my friends has an Aspire A9324 computer that runs on the RS 482 chipset. It has an onboard ATI card. Details of this config available here: Products-Commercial PCs

I want to use a GFX 6600 128mb PCI-E card instead of the onboard GPU. I installed the GFX card, but I am unable to figure how to set the bios to use the external PCI-E card instead of the internal one. Can someone help me?

Thanks

usually, when u plugin a GPU it automatcially switches on to the GPU

make sure u plug the monitor cable into the GPU VGA out, not the one on the motherboard, it should work

however if it doesnt, look for an option of Display in the BIOS and set to external/pcie

Just for the info, that chipset has been reported to have a lot of issues while using nVidia graphics cards, so it might not work afterall.

^^ didnt kno that, a frn of mine is running the same but on onboard graphics

@astro, give it a go and do report back at TE :)

and yeah, try updating the motherboard drivers from AMD/ATI's site, may help with the issues, but only after u get a display

^^ i meant the NVIDIA ATI issues, if any maybe get solved by a driver update, but the fella must be able to get display from the 6600 first

Its also recommended to uninstall the motherboard graphics drivers before you install the graphics card drivers..

Hi guys,

Sorry, couldn't get anywhere near the pooter till the weekend.

You are right - this mobo and gfx card don't like each other. Having issues getting them to work so I am dropping the idea. Also, the Acer machine is under warranty and I don't want to mess around with it too much.

Thanks anyways

PS: The display is all screwed up at the BIOS screen itself. So there is no question about updating drivers.
