hii fellows!!
i got myself an ASUS N6600(256MB DDR) about 2 months back from Rashi Peripherals.I cudnt afford the GT :ashamed: as was low on cash. Since then i have been OC'ing it to find the max possible clock's i can safely keep without burning the card.

The stock frequencies were 300/500.I have managed to OC the card to 420/620 so far(3DMARK 03/05 stable,no artifacts, no hanging, very satisfactory :) ). Since I'm using a stock PSU(read: Very old, the one that was supplied with my useless cabby since the time i got my system, that is about 3 years ago, and i guess its some 300 watts, not more) so my +12V is around 11.40-11.50 when the card is on no load, and it dips to 11.20 when the card runs any graphical application. Temp's too get a bit high nowadays, the card idles at 68 Degrees:huh: , and goes upto 93 degrees while playing NFS/F.E.A.R @1024*768, almost full details. Im using Riva Tuner v2.0 RC 15.8 for in-game monitoring, using the NV thermal Diode plugin, other plugins show the temp to be around 40-50 degrees:huh: , which i find somewhat weird, as the card does get very very hot.

So what i was wondering is, that is it possible to squeeze more juice out of this card with a newer PSU? If yes, then what PSU shud i get? Im really not capable of spending much, so... :ashamed: Also please suggest a good cooling solution to this card.

There's another thing i want to ask. My proccy is an AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2200+
which ran on a stock speed of 1800Mhz, My prev mobo, a good, reliable, but kinda useless one, an ASUS A7N266-VM dint let me OC the proccy:@ . Not just that, since it was an NForce Chipset, so it dint support any driver above the 70's. as a result, i cudnt connect my Gfx card in it:@ . Getting a new mobo was out of the question at that point with the nes gfx card, so i managed to exchange my mobo with one of my friends, a BIOSTAR Km266pro, with a VIA chipset. Thankfully me-buddy an our Gallery Mod "Rahul" helped me out in installing n getting the new mobo n system up to speed. A Very BIG HEARTFELT :thanx: THANKYOU to you buddy, have absolutely no idea what i wud have done, if it were'nt for you :). Thanx bro.
Anyways, thankfully that mobo allowed me to install the card, and the day was saved :ohyeah:. The mobo also allowed oc'ing the proccy by changing the FSB(No access to multipliers :( ) so now i managed to OC the proccy to 2.08 gz with a setting of 154*13.5, default FSB being 133. Cooling and stuff still remained stock. I cant OC the proccy anymore, as it isnt stable above this FSb, anything above 155 results in unstable PRIME results. 154 is Prime stable.
Temps reach a max of 61 degs while running prime/3dMarks/games.

so, once again, can this proccy be oc'ed anymore? and will getting a new PSU help OC'ing it more? U people are the bosses here :cool2: , so please help me in this regard..

Thanks to all who took time out to read this thread of mine. :)

okay.. thanx :) any ideas if i would be able to squeeze some more juice from the 6600? it has the same core as the GT right? then i guess it might go to somewhere around 500 on the core. Do you think its possible with the newer PSU? though Rahul says that not all cards are the same, still... yeh dil maange more :D

It has the same core, but usually the highest grade cores are reserved for the GT branding and cores that dont reach the speed grade are binned as non GT's. But as your temps are reaching 93C id say back down a bit, not go further. Bring it down to 400/600.

Very risky to run for a prolonged time period ... specially if ur ups is not able to stabilize the voltage ....

NV43 ??? if so then u need not worry ... well the 6600 and the 6600GT's initially were supposed to share the same core ... and those can take some amount of whooping .. i had my old 6600GT running at load 85c .... although such high temps surely decreases the overall lifetime of the card ... unless ur system becomes unstable or u start getting random bsod's ..

Anyway ... i'd recommend a new psu .. and if possible some better arflow in the cabinet .... a little fan below the card can bring the temps down by quite a bit ... specially if u have a passive cooler ....

And about the oc'ing ... a friend of mine had a nv43 6600 256 mb card .. he had it running at 525/610 stable ... and no temps problem either ... card running at 75c which is quite normal for the nv43's ....

ohk. WOW!! soo many details to look into now. thank you all.. :) so i guess i need a new PSU, and a fan or two to improve the airflow around the card.. okay..any more suggestions would be extremely welcome :) can anyone recommend a NOT=SO-EXPENSIVE-YET-RELIABLE-PSU ??

NOT FULL DETAILS!! :) i keep shaders/textures and lighting at medium, res at 1024*768, aliasing at 2x. I get some 20-30 fps with that. I can post some screen's if you want me to :)
