Need help with an Iphone 3gs purchase

My friend's selling an Iphone 3gs 16gb for 11k.He says its got a signal problem.The rest everything is fine.Its unlocked and jailbroken.Also got a chrome back cover.
Two questions:
1.Can the signal problem be fixed?
2.Can I go ahead with the purchase?

dont know whether the signal problem can be fixed or not but i would suggest you to stay away

as soon as iphone 5 releases next month there will be loads of iphone sale threads on TE - better wait for that :)

1. What version is it running? It seems with update to 4.2.1 there seems to be problem with reception (both voice and data) It was experienced by users worldwide. So I believe it has to do with the update. If it is not running 4.2.1, then I do not know what else is causing the signal problem.

2. The price is absolutely good for a 3gs 16gb phone. So make sure if you restore it or downgrading it corrects the signal problem. If it doesn't then buying it is not a good idea. Test it out.

See a signal problem could just be a loose antenna. But then is it Wifi or GSM that is having the issue. I would suggest you buy it on conditional basis i.e. if it can be fixed under a certain amount. I can direct you to a guy who should be able to repair it.
