Thanks DarkAngel and ALPHA17.

Going slightly OT but does processor overclocking help? Not looking to take benchmarks, just say after 1-1.5 years when this might struggle to play newer games, would overclocking the processor help?

Both yes and no, I will categorize the answer to make it more informative --
  • The Core i3 is a completely locked processor and so is the H67 chipset, so over-clocking is firmly out of the picture.
  • The Intel Core i3 processor, is a dual-core with a Hyper Threading design architecture hence shows up as a quad-core to Windows.
  • Now for current games the Core i3 is more than enough, but depending on the future game engines this alleged current advantage might not be enough for future engines which will exploit every core to the fullest.
  • At the end of its life-span say ~1 --> 1[sup]1[/sup]/[sub]2[/sub] years down the line I will ask you to pick up a H77 motherboard now and put a Intel Core i3 processor on it [to keep within budget]. Later upgrade to a Intel Ivy-Bridge processor.

So your configuration now will be -->

Intel Core i3 2100 ~6200/-

Intel H77 based motherboard ~7000/-

[rest configuration unchanged]

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

got the PC finally.

for some reason, couldn't convince myself to buy a 2 core processor(coming from E6600), so ended up buying the i5-2300 but then had to scale down the GPU from 7770 to 7750(stupid move?). rest of the stuff what Darkangel recommended.
