wht i want is good contents regarding latest technology, gizmos along with security related features and tweaking............
plz suggest some mag.........it shd b easily available in india.....and cost shdnt exceed..digit,chip......(also presntly i m staying away frm linux magazine as i dont know how to operate it)

Ditch all that and visit TE regularly...... It is free and even more enjoyable and gives latest tech new not only of India but from the whole world......

Yeah, Nikhil, TE does all that. Now if only they could ship a CD/DVD every month, I would not even look at any other magazine!

Hey Magnet, have you considered PC Quest? I used to subscribe to them until a short while ago. Stopped because the articles in them were getting slightly irrelevant to me. They focus mainly on networks, some high funda stuff about Linux. Not much on the PC tweaking front. But a good mag all the same.

PC Quest is an average magazine, Digit and Chip are far better. Oh, and as Nikhil said, do visit TE regularly :ohyeah:

i have my share of stuff at Toms and XBitlabs...chip n digit are a awste...just ads and BS

I buy both regularly and then i curse myself why i bought them... And this happenes every month... Pointless buying them... You just get to know who sells what... For real stuff be reglar on forums... Let it be any... I rate TE to be one of the best and good thats its desi ;)...

My exact story .... buy and regret... and from this month Digit have increased price from 100/- to 125/- .... now another reason to regret buying this rag. I prefer Chip to Digit.

PC Quest : Not meant for avarage user. Its targeted twords enterprise.
Chip: Best of the lot. Far better choice of articles and reviews compared to fast degrading quality of DIGIT
Digit: worthless. I am subscribed unfortunately.

PC Quest is a good quality, professional magazine, its becoming one of my favourites, but yes it is true that its focus is shifting more and more towards enterprises and organisations, but as for sheer technical content, it can't be beat. It also has good balance of windows, linux, networking and concept based articles. It does have its flaws though, some of its linux content is geared solely at redhat like distro's, for one. If you have a good connection to the internet and don't mind reading of your monitor, read the archives at www.pcquest.com , they are a great resource.

Chip is another good one, it is made quite well, I like its editorials too. Its content is more geared towards windows home users, and is really suitable for them. Plus they manage to bundle nice CD/DVD content. This was my prior favourite.

Digit is more intented towards home users and office users who want to use their PC's for productivity, hence the tips and tricks are devoted to applications (like Microsoft Office), large volume of news feeds, etc. I read digit regularly in 2003, though now I have stopped. However the digit forums are quite great, and you have some amount of interaction with respect to CD/DVD content, and may be able to get yourselves heard.

So for general home PC users, chip would be a good choice, while PCquest is good for the more inquisitive, or for programmers/sys admins.

But yes, you get lots of good content online at sites like this (for discussions & news), slashdot (news, news), magazine archives of magazines like PCQuest, online magazines like Linux Gazette or the other free windows user magazines (I forget its name), hardware sites like Anandtech, Techtree etc.

@Anish
PCQUEST is an average magazine? :O
Dude it depends upon how you see things.I see it as a quality entreprise level magazine satisfying my thirst of attaining/understanding corporate technical fundas :ohyeah:
It totally serves a different audience.
Digit & CHIP look like babies infront of it :bleh: [joking].Jokes apart Digit & CHIP serve the same audience that is home users or people wanting to know more about technology without hassle :P

For the everyday joe I believe CHIP serves quality content. No comments regarding digit since I've hardly read it over the couple of months.

more or less close to chip mag na...

also, wat abt mags like
computers@home,
linuxforu(for linux)

As far the contents go I would suggest DeveloperIQ .. Digit is also getting some great stuff these days but I buy Digit primarily for the dvd .. If you can afford consider buying PCW .. its the best magazine around ...

My recommendation will be just subscribe to RSS of good tech sites such as The Register .. BetaNews et al .. That will give you more edge ...

hey this is just a suggestion.
If you really want great magazines fo to the matunga flyover or kings circle.
There you will see thos old raddi sellers.
They usually get 1 month old copies of US and UK magazines. Some quality stuff. Just about a month old. Also full with DVDs and CDs. Bargain hard and you will get real good deal on those.

I think Chip is the best...almost everyone will agree that Digit is good only for the DVD's...digit was good until last year, when they started publishing some irrelevant stuff,i think chip is good enough for the latest on tech.

hey thks for the suggestion...but i think i presently stick with internet...my frnd has some old issues of digit......and also funky suggestion is kool for me........btw where do u stay funky...jus asking since u play online counterstrike...and where i stay i m on narrow band..jus curious
