Need to buy a phone urgently - in a couple of hours.

Hi folks,

I had shelved my plan on buying a phone for a few months when my SE K700i had a bad fall and broke. I am using a very old SE T310 now, so I need to buy a phone like today, in a couple of hours.

Here is my criteria.

1) Phone should be a SE phone. I don't like Nokia phones (bias or whatever - I don't like them - I don't care for Motorola either).

2) Phone should look nice, classy, and a bit different.

3) Budget is around 12K, but I can go up to 25K (if I really like what I am being shown) - they don't have the P1 at Sony World here, so I can't actually check it out.

4) PDA functionality and touchscreen are not all important - I have an HP Ipaq that I use for my PDA.

5) Camera is not essential either - I hardly use the pictures taken by camera phones; I leave it to my Canon.

6) GPRS EDGE - would like to have it.

6) FM - hardly ever listen to it.

7) Music - Like to have the phone loaded with songs - but seldom listen to them :( - Again, I like to listen to music on my Denon amp and Polk Audio speakers

- Looking forward to early replies folks.

Folks, I was in a rush and needed a phone right away. I bought the SE W810i (Satin Black). Looks nice and I find it a nice replacement for the K700i. Rs 11.3k (minus speakers - I did not need them).

W810i - yes I got it a couple of months back, but sadly today it went kaput. It just refused to boot after I shut it off for a couple of hours today. Now I can't even take out the SIM Card - the battery hold is just too tight. Any suggestions on how to open the W810 is folks?

No no no no...u must take out the battery by hook or by crook then take out the sim and re-install the battery. Check this and this. Like u, i am also a sony fan, and own k750,k790 and p990. :ohyeah:

This similar thing happened with my k790i after a few months of its purchase.
Anyways, u gotto take out the SIM. Then upgrade its firmware from here . It even brings the dead phones to life.

Nothing to worry doctor, it will be fine and healthy :P

Hunter sirji,

You are a SAVIOR! I got the phone open, now I am downloading the update software. Do I need to insert the sim back for updating the phone? Or can I do it without the sim. I know I need to battery 100% charged before updating the software, right?

Doc

PS. BTW my phones have been T310, K700i, and now W810i. What do you think of the W950i from Sify Mall? Worth the temptation? he he

A saviour..... :cloud9: :P

Fx...

Nah, u dont need a sim at all while updating. U should also remove the memory card. Battery thing is not true since the phone gets charged simultaneously while data transfer. Just follow the steps carefully...especially when to leave the "c" button while connecting the DCU-60, the software will guide u with good graphics, so it should all be a breeze.

Camera is a high priority for me :D. But for someone who doesnt need a cam phone, i think the phone ROCKS !! :yay:

Hunter,

Went through the process, very carefully. Says no new updates for my phone and that the phone is up-to-date :-( Not sure what to do next? Is there another defect in the phone?

Bummer !! :S
If there is really no new update then u have to take the phone to sony guys and ask them to reload the firmware. But u should try again because the first time i tried to update my k790i f/w, it said there is no update, i tried again within moments and it started updating. Check on esato if there is a new update around, check the last pages as they havent updated it recently.
