this started happening today morning. As soon as i connect to the internet an error pops up saying network cable unplugged.the ethernet led goes off on the modem and mobo for a fraction of a second when this happens. But sometimes i can browse for 10 minutes(max.)but sometimes its only a second. but after that same error pops up.The Lan cable is plugged onboard to a m68-s2p gigabyte board.
Now i plugged in a realtek lan card and everything is fine. Is my board alright? or is it just a software, malware issue? please help.btw,i am on WINDOWS 7.

the culprit may be your mobo lan socket or may be the cable itself, since your cable is working fine on the realtek lan card, the mobo lan socket might be having some issue.
Try with a different lan cable on your mobo socket, if not they the socket may be faulty, see if dust have gatheres inside it, if yes then blow the dust away

^doesn't help.the ethernet led on the modem and the mobo keeps blinking randomly causing disconnections.it says 'link to broadband connection falied'.i also noticed that whenever i click connect, the local area connection icon says unplugged.but i am able to connect after a couple monutes and then the above error pops up almost instantly or sometimes after a few minutes.i mean in need of some help.

Install the drivers again for ur mobo and if the problem persists than ur mobo's lan has concked off.
There is nothin u can do if under warranty get ur mobo rmaed or just buy a new lan card and use it...

have you tried with a new lan cable??

I had faced a similar issue a couple of weeks back... The modem will start the handshake and halfway through, the LAN LED in the modem as well as the motherboard will go off (And network unplugged message will be seen in network adapter settings). Then after a few seconds the whole process would start again... and it will take around 15-20 mins (after multiple retries) to connect.

It turned out to be a modem issue for me. The airtel guy came, put a new modem and I am not noticing the issue now. I was suspecting the ethernet port on my motherboard too... But it was the modem in my case. If you have another device (like laptop) connect the laptop and PC back-to-back using your current cable and see if you can ping them. If the ping goes through the culprit might be the modem.
