New AI Chip Would Make Games Smarter

Imagine sneaking up on an elite soldier when suddenly alarm bells sound. The soldier, spotting you in your role as a superspy, immediately yells, dodges once or twice, then runs facefirst into a wall.

Sound familiar? It probably does, because that's the scenario Israeli startup AIseek hopes to eliminate forever from the multibillion-dollar world of video games.

LOL graphics accelerator, audio accelerator then physics accelerator and now AI accelerator. What on earth is the shiny new dual core CPU gonna do then :S? ... play dumb charades :p
 
same feelings as chaos.

Soon they will have even more specialization - a chip for cut scenes, one for network play, one for reloading ammo, blah blah....

after all these hardware advancements I find computer games are becoming more and more boring, while u have to spend more and more to be able to play them.

Still, at least this chip (haven't read article yet) if it does improve AI, will at least improve gameplay, which is more than I can say for 7800 and X800 and physics chips etc.
 
Maybe we'll have a chip that plays the game for us :D So that way we can do other stuff while the game is being finished :rofl:

On the other hand all this specialised chips is going to make developing a game a mcuh tougher job. Already Nvidia was crying over how dual core cpus are going to complicate game development and gabe newell was dissing the next gen consoles.........
