PC Peripherals New Config Advice please

Basically my friend is looking to buy a new high end computer for around 40k(excluding monitor and speakers), i have a basic idea of the config in mind, but need some help, so here it goes... :hap2:

1. Cpu-Q6600(around 9k) or 9300(around 11k)
2. Some mobo supporting ddr3 ram (??)
3. 2Gb ddr3 ram (price??)
4. basic cabinet and smps (1k)
5. 8600gt(4.5k)
6. 250gb hdd (2.2k)

Total can be around 40k

also note that, since he has only a 17inch monitor, not much powerful gcard is required.:no:
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. :D

What will be this 'high-end' comp be used for???

Gaming/HD n so forth or running 3D apps like Maya/3DSmax/ProE/Catia???

And where did u get a price quote of 9k for a Q6600??

And for running such a system that measly low-end PSU wont do any justice. So u'll have to invest in a good PSU.. Again that'll depend on ur budget and requirements. :)



And more importantly, why DDR3 RAM??? :O

The DDR3 RAM alone will set u back by roughly 15k odd.. Not worth the price u pay for the performance or at least when the whole system's been alloted a total budget of 40k.
 
my friend just want a future proof comp so that is why the ddr3 mobo and the ram and the quad, he does game a little (NFS carbon, Quake 4 etc), last time when he bought a comp, he bought a ddr1 mobo just when ddr2 was about to come in the scene, and he regrets that a lot, as ddr2 was selling dirt cheap after some time and was better too....
 
^^And frankly just when u thought the time for DDR3 is ripe, it simply is not.. :no:

Dude, a pair of 1GB DDR3 RAM @ 1600MHz odd is going to set u back by 15grand!!!

That'll get you 5 pairs of decent 1GB DDR2 @ 800MHz!!! Lo'l... :rofl:

He wants a future-proof comp?? Lo'l, for how long???

Dude, seriously tell us your friend's requirement and then we'll suggest u a decent rig which's going to be future proof for at least a yr or so.. Lo'l.

Forget the motherboard part since most motherboards having decent chipsets (starting P35 onwards) have DDR3 support as well..

PS: the more the future-proof, the more moolah u've to shell out..
 
my friend basically wants a config. that should hold good for his needs like

Gaming + Photoshop + Video Editing and other general stuff, not so much into rendering and all....just a basic descent gaming rig :D

PS: I get the part of future safe and all, but will have to convince him ;)

That should be future proof for quite a while.. :)

1. Q9300 (12400/-; Dont know who gave u a quote of 11k!!)

2. aBit IP 35 Pro (9400/-)

3. Transcend AxeRams/G.Skill GBHZ 2x1GB DDR2 800MHz (3k/4k)

4. 250GB HDD (2500/-) or 320GB (3500/-) [Seagate/WD]

5. 9600GT (9500/- from XFX,eVGA, MSI) or 8800GT (11k/-)

Fits the bill.. Take your pick.. :)
 
thanks gannu, good suggestion, but i dont know about IP35 Pro, are there any boards around 8k or so that supports ddr2 ram upto 1066mhz of something, he doesn't need a sli for his mobo, but ddr2 ram support upto 1066mhz will help i think
 
^ hmmmm... 8K well i think u can go for Asus P5K which have all those stuff u want... Decent board with P35 chipset, 1066MHz FSB DDR2 support with Asus Super Memspeed Technology seems somewhat of future proof as u want also have moderate overclocking capability... 1333MHz Bus supported 45nm also supported through BIOS... so check it out whather available or not

dude, what about the cabby and smps. the first post says 1K for cabinet and PSU!! no no, keep aside atleast, i repeat.. ATLEAST 5K for the cabby and PSU

PS - Future proof - just a personal opinion. the max future proof you can go is no more then 2 yrs. even a Pentium D is future proof for around 2 yrs :)

Bit of a noob myself, but here's my take on a "FUTURE PROOF" system" :-

1. CPU - Q6600 (Even today most of the games and some of the application s/w are not core 2 optimized. So a quad core should serve your purpose in the near future )

2. Get some decent X48 chipset based mobo -> it supports both DDR2 and DDR3.

3. RAM - Get a 2GB DDR2 Transcend RAM as of now . It just doesnt make any sense to opt for DDR3 right now , maybe a year or 2 later,when the price becomes more competetive, you could try DDR3.

4. Cabinet - Get Zebronics Peace/ Antibiotic and HX 620 (just to be future-proof ok).

5. GPU - 8600 GT makes perfect sense since you are using a CRT . Dont go for any other higher end card if you are planing to continue using a CRT. If in the near future you want to switch to a LCD then go for 8800GT.

6. HD - 320 GB WD.

The P35 chipset and the X38 chipset does support DDR2/DDR3 as well and it does not make any sense, shelling out an 4k extra for a X48 based motherboard; :no:
 
^ +1 for P35... exactly dere is no such huge benefit of X38 n X48 over P35 when DDR2 used.. even X48 or P45 whatever u say will not last longer as new CPU architecture so far we know Nehalem will be there in near future so its not advisable to huge a lots of money on X48/DDR3 combination for just a sake of future usability unless u r a hardcore overclocker or wanna use ur pc for benchmark
 
MSI P35 Platinum Combo is 7.8k and supports both DDR2 and DDR3, although it has almost no OC room in DDR2 and some in DDR3.

I had no interest in DDR3 stuff for now, so went for IP35-Pro.

Will upgrade to DDR3, when nehalem is out and DDR3 prices are a bit more decent.
 
Going for DDR3 is too bad idea.

No need at all
Taking a high end processor is fine.
But you will have to buy a good SMPS like cool master or antec.
or VIP.

You can take a mother board of asus P5 DH w Deluxe if the pc is ment for high entertainment. or else you could choose MSI board P7 n diamond as you are purchasing a graphics card it has a sli solution no need to put another.

It will give you a free creative sound card with the board nobody gives this feature.
Its price tag is less than asus.

Ram instead of DDR3 put the DDR2 Cossair or kingston 800 MHZ 4 GB a whopping performance will be resulted.

Thats it any more queries.
