NGOHQ.com has gotten their hands on a new set of beta NVIDIA drivers from an XFX/Pine graphics. A quick comparison of the beta drivers from the official NVIDIA site, versus the drivers provided from XFX's FTP server do in fact indicate that NVIDIA is preparing to release additional cards in its 7800 series.

The new cards will sport the following designations "NVIDIA GeForce 7800SE/XT/LE/LT/ZT" and "GeForce 7800 Ultra". Specifics of the new 7800s currently aren't known but as soon as we get more information we will pass it along. For those interested, the new drivers are available NGOHQs site.

Traditionally, NVIDIA has reserved the LE moniker for GPU cores with several quads disabled. SE and XT were generally ATI-only suffixes, though last year we saw a short lived GeForce 6800XT. LT and ZT are totally new suffixes.

GeForce 7800, based on the G70 ASIC, was virtually replaced by G71 overnight back in March. G71 and G70 are very similar, but G71 uses a smaller die process making it cooler and less expensive to manufacture in quantity. ATI and NVIDIA both have a habit of repackaging older ASICs as slightly crippled versions of the same GPU in order to squeeze out a few more sales at unsaturated price points
