Hi guyz

Need a new LED Monitor

Requirements: 1920 x 1080; HDMI; DisplayPort; Good manual callibration options; IPS - preferably

Size: Ideally 19-21 [Reason being - I already have a 47" LED in my Living Room & my Comp too is in the same room, so was not looking at a large screen monitor. My Living room size is 23 X 10 feet, so it's not crammed] - However will have to skip this size as I cannot find any decent monitor that meets my requirements - i.e 1920 X 1080 & HDMI. So If you guys know of any 19-21" just lemmt know.

BUDGET: Did not want to exceed 10K ..... but I am looking at "Quality+Performance".... so will have to up the budget grudgingly. Plus eventually factor in the cost of a DisplayPort cable too (which is around 1.5-1.7K if I am right)

BUY NOW OR WAIT TILL DIWALI: Was looking at staggering the expenses rather than wait until Diwali - which is roughly 90 days away! (I have not monitored the PC buying scene for many years & unaware of offers/deals that come in during this time)

DOUBTS ABOUT BUYING NOW: 1] Will my current rig (see below) support this Monitor - trouble-free performance (If there are issues I would'nt exactly know the reason - Monitor problem or my low-end rig causing it?); 2] Wait until Diwali for better deals & pricing!

Existing Vintage  RIG (this was aound 60K in circa 2003-4)
AMD Athlon 1800+ | Asus A7N8X-X | 1 GB SD-RAM | NVidia GeForce FX 5200 | Samsung 17" CRT SyncMaster 753 DF (paid 13.5K way back in 2003!!)| SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Platinum | HDD 120 + 200GB + some TV-Tuner card which I discarded long ago

Status of Above: Everything's working - except that it's super duper slow [ so except for surfing & MS Office, DL's I cannot use it for anything else like - image/video editing]

Expected New-RIG - (for myself) During Diwali this year [Budget - around 70K +/- 20K] - No Hardcore Gaming (or whatever a teenage daughter might want to play)

SOME MONITOR CONSIDERATIONS
Dell Ultrasharp U2312HM
- (Damm thing does not have an HDMI, has DisplayPort; Some guy recently picked it from Prime for a little over 14K .... which was the lowest anywhere). Would join any "Group-Buy" for this one.

Dell U2211H or U2311H (cheaper than the above - BUT Stocks are simply non-existant & purchasing directly from Dell is no-no ... they sell at MRP & a headache)

LG E2251-VR [Was fascinated by this model as it has a unique "dual monitor taskbar" - Dual Package enables the user with a touch of a button Dual Monitor, Dual Taskbar and Dual Web to improve your working efficency, i.e by automatically aligning windows side-by-side thus eradicating the need for you to manually adjust them; TN panel & no display port] - Price around 9.4K. Problem is availability

BENQ or Viewsonic ?
Also Checked out the Philips & AOC - (Cheaper than Dell U2312HM) Not very exciting (maybe I am missing something .....correct me if I am wrong)

Looking forward to your inputs - ALPHA17; 6pack; Gannu; Jakob; rajan1311; Rockfella; aman.pitbull; m-jeri; Revolution; Faraz; @vivek.krishnan ......etc, etc. especially regarding my Doubts/Fears in Buying Now rather than wait until Diwali?

Thanks

hdmi and display port and ips in one monitor in 10k range is asking too much. :p
what do you want the most in your monitor? list them in order of preference from 1-5 (1 being highest preference). then maybe we can give better to the point suggestions.

What I want from this monitor

1] Accuracy of - Color; Contrast/Brightness; Gamma etc [At my workplace for the past 18 years - I use professional monitor's callibrated for broadcast standards so at home I am expecting at least 98 percent accuracy]
2] Sufficient workspace - when using softwares that have large menus [Avid - Media Composer/ DS; Photoshop; Audio Editing occassional Maya & 3D Studio Max]
3] 1920 x 1080 - All my video work is in this workspace
4] Build Quality & Durability [should last me for 6-8 years at least] - with CRT this fear was'nt there, but with LED's I am not sure (dead pixels etc)

I am willing to increase my budget & go with Dell Ultrasharp U2312HM - However, I wanted to know if there are any other alternatives which will also help me lower my budget.

Thanks

There's no better than U2312HM if you want color accuracy and contrast,Though you won't get HDMI port in it.Under 10k you won't the quality of good IPS panel.

Thanks Jakob. I will most likely go in for Dell U2312HM itself.

However, since no further feedback :( .... On whether buy now or wait till Diwali  I guess.... I will hold & put the money in a 90 day FD and earn some interest on it (mebbe it would pay up for the displayport cable) :p
