200 tbps is a theoretical maximum of 200,000 1 gbps connections being saturated at the same time. Nice.

This probably won't make a major impact to latency because we already have cables in place for many of these routes. We'll need to abandon submarine cables altogether and shift to a satellite-to-satellite internet backbone to get big improvements in latency at this point. Because light is 1.5x faster in air/vacuum than it is inside a fiber optic cable and also because satellites will allow for much shorter paths between places than just following the ocean floor. Imagine getting a ping under 100ms to NY from India.

Yeah, LEO satellites are promising after starlink demonstrated what can be done. As per reviews, jitter and lag spikes still needs more improvements.

I believe Starlink is still doing phased array antenna > satellite > ground station for their routing. Sometimes they'll use their inter-satellite lasers to go from antenna > satellite > satellite > ground station. That means they're still dependent on normal fiber optic internet infrastructure and will always be slower while they keep doing that. Once they have many, many more of these inter-satellite laser links in place, they should start using them for the entire route and that is when we'll start to see them easily beat fiber optic, at least as far as latency is concerned.

So far these subsea cables are the best bet till satellite tech can surpass them.

Naa, these were 1gig and 10gbps back in 2016 now these are multiple 400gig connections with 100gig being the least one.
Even national backbones of Airtel/voda/jio are 100gig links with edge terminations being 10gig atleast

One of the biggest causes of latency, lag, and jitter is the last-mile connectivity offered by Local agencies.
Additionally, Routing in India is horrendous.
These two reasons cause a lot of trouble.
