Google is gearing up for the release of a new flavor of their mobile operating system, and is also planning the availability of a new handset to join the already popular Nexus lineup.

Supposedly called Nexus Prime, the mobile phone was already spotted on the website of a UK retailer, which does not offer a specific release date for it, or a possible price tag, but does confirm a series of specifications already rumored for the mobile phone.

At the same time, the retailer has published a photo with what might be the smartphone, though we'd rather say that this is merely a mockup, and not a rendering of the upcoming mobile phone itself.

Among the specifications that seem to have been confirmed on Nexus Prime courtesy of handtec.co.uk (via phone Arena), we can count the fact that it would pack s 1.5GHz application processor.

Previous rumors suggested that the Nexus Prime would be a dual-core device, which means that it might prove a very powerful handset in the end.

However, Google has never aimed at the high-end of the market with its Nexus devices, and there is a greater possibility that the upcoming Google phone would be a single-core device too.

In addition to the fast CPU, the Nexus Prime is also said to arrive on shelves with a Super AMOLED touchscreen display, which should be 4.6 inches large.

Moreover, it will arrive on shelves with a 5-megapixel photo snapper with support for 1080p video recording, complemented by a 1MP front-facing camera for video calling.

WiFi connectivity should be included into the mix as well, along with a built-in GPS receiver, and we would also suspect that all the other usual connectivity capabilities that Android devices pack these days will be included with Nexus Prime as well (except for 4G, maybe).

As previously stated, the mobile phone is expected to be the very first device in the world to arrive on shelves with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system on board.

Have a look at the listing over at handtec.co.uk to make an idea of what the forthcoming Google phone might be all about.

It is getting closer and closer. I just can't wait :) IP5 vs Nexus Prime, of course I would take the side of Prime.

Also is this how the phone will look like?

If it is, it looks good. I like it :)

^^ It will be a dual core phone. It should be coming out with TI OMAP 4460 dual-core ARM Cortex-A9s which rates the CPU @ 1.5 Ghz. While it is a rumor, it seems logical.

It is a dual core. 1.2 or 1.5 is the question. I see this getting released immediatey After Iphone 5, and anyways Iphones will have availability crunch which might help Nexus Prime.
Guess its better to buy Nokia Soap Box phone and sit and see the phones/companies fighting with their releases what say guys.

^^ or just hold on to your current handsets, until the dust settles and then get the phone that best matches your requirement.

Coming back to the topic, it does look snazzy!
