Any idea when this camera will be available commercially?

This is what I am getting anyways....hope it comes in 3 weeks when I am heading back to India

Actually that's a lot of baloney. :P

If you notice the focus points are all centered around the middle point.

Most other cameras like the Canon 7D has a larger spread of its 27 focus points and they are all cross type sensor points which are much more accurate. The D7000 has only 9 cross type points. Three rest are normal points which are not as sensitive as compared to cross type. :)

Oooh,I love the collective nerdgasm in this thread! As Brendon pointed out, cross type AF points are sensitive to both horizontal and vertical motion,so you should be comparing them to the 7D specs. Looks good for video though, stereo mic input and all.

But 9 cross-type sensor a huge improvement over D90 which had just one ..... :D

This is a true successor to the D90 unlike the 60D which looks like a downgrade from 50D :P

Hmm, it actually is in 7D territory now, didn't notice it. It will be nice if one of the sites come up with a comprehensive review.. Seems like 50D has dipped below 950USD...

its an improvement over the 1 cross-type sensor :)

Let's make a quick price comparison:

Comparing the D7000 to the 60D:

D7000 body only: $1200

60D body only: $1100

Difference: $100 more

D7000 with kit lens 18-105: $1500

60D with kit lens 18-135: $1400

Difference: $100 more

Comparing the D7000 to the 7D:

D7000 body only: $1100

7D body only: $1529

Difference: $329 less

D7000 with kit lens 18-135: $1500

7D with kit lens 28-135: $1700

Difference: $200 less

So, purely based on price, the D7000 is targeted more towards the 60D. Of course, the body only option is priced $300 lower compared to the kit option, just like the 60D is, making it a sweet deal.

@pappu, the D90 does not have AF Fine Tune. I use a D90 only. It's only today, when people on other forums were rejoicing about the addition of AF Fine Tuning in the D7000, did I realise something like that exists. I was completely unaware of it. And, I've just googled and checked, the D90 doesn't have it. I don't really know much about the feature though. I think you're talking about the built in AF motor which the D90 already has. AF Fine Tune is something different.
