Thanks I am aware of that but the objective here is replacing the noisy fan in my TP-Link switch -

The fourdot one has a higher noise floor and is PWM. The connection is a 3 pin one so it will always run at full speed.

You can ask them to convert this to 3 pin or maybe call them up and ask if they can modify it to run at lower speeds

They cannot do that.

You could try a diy solution to reduce the fan speed , adding a resistor on the power line will reduce the voltage therby the speed

Hmm .. I used one of the Noctua low noise adapters lying around and that hardly made any difference. It is a NA-RC7 which is 50 ohm according to this. Probably needs more higher resistance like the NA-RC12 which is150 ohm. Also I am not sure if the pinouts match. I will PM you in sometime if you can help.
