Nokia N9 : MeeGo Phone

A teaser video showing off the N9 has just been put up by the guys at PocketNow. Not much can be gleaned from the video but the UI does seem to be very smooth and a far departure from Symbian. The camera too is a Carl Zeiss unit and not of the much criticized EDoF variety. The operating system is expected to be MeeGo though technically it is Maemo 6 with MeeGo bindings.

And i thought that the E7 was the most beautiful phone nokia ever made...

This is going to be one hell of a phone!!!

@dhruv - can Meego run Qt apps written for S^3??

^^Similar Queries to Dhruv (I even suspect he having this phone with him now )

1. Can it run S^3 apps ?

2. If no then how big/small is the app repository for this and are developers actually keen on developing apps for Nokia's OS ?

3. What may be the expected MRP and Street price and when is it expected to launch officially in India ?

this phone will be for developers only... You wont be able to buy it. All qt apps for symbian are capable of running on MeeGo. Just compile and publish once again thats it. No extra coding required.

^^What do you mean developers only ?? :S

Do you mean at this point it is only for developers ??

And later it will officially released by Nokia?

Since if it is for developers only then point having teasers etc etc.

@raksrules

From what I know, there are 2 MeeGo phones. One is developer only - with hardware qwerty (codenamed Dali ?)
And another is slicker version w/o hardware qwerty (codenamed Lankku ?) for mass market.

Also, this developer version will have Harmattan (Maemo 6 with Qt) not MeeGo. Not sure about what the other one will have
ofcourse Dhruv will provide exact details :)

I dont care about details. I have started saving cash for it ;)

EDIT ---

btw, looking at Dhruv's sig I think he already has 1 Meego device...dont know which one of the 2 ;)

You cannot run the same qt applications per se, but it will be easily portable.

The application repository wont be large.

The freedom (and hacks) you have in the *nix is incredible,no mobile OS can come anywhere near. (proof visit talk.maemo.org)

and excellent community.

If you are a *nix junkie, take the red pill :p

If i'm not wrong , you will not be able to get this. Don't worry , the one you WILL be able to get is better :)

Harmattan with bindings and Qt is correct. Of course you'll be able to update to full MeeGo if you wish to.
