They scored a lot of bravo with their debut attempt but fate and unrealistic goals took its toll.
Let's hope they keep things 'simple' and manageable with the next one apparantly due early 2012.
On the wishlist will be many carry overs from the current device with little polish across the board. Like a much better LCD, more 'tapers' and such cosmetics, more stable UI with less half-baked 'experiments' etc...
If they get too caught up on claiming their 15mins of Spec-Sheet fame (good only for trade shows) with quad cores, 'the first one' tag with some new tech or 'concept' features they'll again get overwhelmed with roadbloacks. There's a reason why iPhone started so barebones yet reamains a revelation of the past decade. Even if you account for 'The Apple Factor', there're benefits of starting slow and building up on your laurels.
One doesn't have to stand out by smothering features; Avoiding gimmicks and unrealistic limitation (think EDoF, Intel H,P,Z motherboards, locked bootloaders etc) will do much better for brand image.
