Graphic Cards Nvidia 9800GT or Ati HD4850

Hey guys,

I am disposing off my old graphics card nvidia 7900.

Finally have narrowed my search to Nvidia 9800GT and Ati HD4850. Budget is 6.5k to 7k. ATI is just a bit higher priced than the nvidia card.

I have the read some comparisons. Almost all saying Ati HD4850 to excel than Nvidia 9800GT. there has been reports of HD 4850 getting heated up also.

Now I am really confused......

Which one of the above card is better?

Does the heating issue in ATI damage or degrade the performance of the card?

Just to give a better picture I use my PC for designing and I have DELL S2208WFP screen.

THanXs for your help Guys

i can say as much the overheating 4850 is not something i have heard, i used a 4850 until very recently and had idle temps of 42 to 44C and max of around 65C i didnt have any great cooling, and most of the behcnmarks are for gaming, if designing is your thing you might be better of looking at a quadro maybe ...

both card lie in same budget range.

but performance wise you simply should not compare 9800GT with HD4850.

@7k you should look for GTS250 instead if you favor nV.

If you can opt for Nvidia GTS 250, go for it, if not, then ati 4850 is for you. I am currently using ATI MSI 4850 and idle temps are around 42-43C and load temps are around 60C.

I'm using the 4850 since a year, no problems at all, Excellent stuff, I would recommend it, I had problems with the 8600 from nvidia in the past

i say u go for gts 250
also, u can opt for 4870...just a little costlier, but much better than both, also, gts 250 is dx11 card, so is 4870 (4850 TOO), and power consumption of 4870 is less than gts 250

and i hav 4850, very happy with it, excellent overclocker, that card is, but gts 250 beats it by a bit, so out of these 2, go for gts 250

that is BS in pure form.
GTS250 is dx10,
HD4xxx is dx10.1

only dx11 cards in the market at present are HD5xxx

and
@OP..
mention your complete system config along with PSU for better suggestions.

Mate, i ve seen fair amounts of exaggeration here, but that one ranks pretty high. Its common knowledge that only HD5 series cards are DX 11.

who told u that gts 250 is a dx 11 card

^^Spare him guys, he must have wanted to say GTS250/4850/4870 are DX10.1 as compared to DX10 of 9800GT.

@OP:

1. Zotac GTS 250 512MB w/ custom cooler

2. Powercolor HD4850 512MB HDMI (with Artic-cooling cooler by default)

3. 9800GT with single slot cooler.

1 > 2 >> 3

ya but sapphire 5670 costs 5.2k

it is almost equal to 9800 gt and + it is a dx11 card

^^^@draglord & sato1986 gts 250 is a dx 10 card not 10.1

can you please provide some links?
i think HD4770 and 9800GT perform on par with each other...5670 falls between 4670 and 4770.

@t0m did you select any one of these i.e Nvidia 9800GT and Ati HD4850?

I will suggest Performance wise Ati 4850 is better than Nvidia 9800GT.(NOT MUCH) but there is price difference. BTW way don't you go for GTS250 as many other members said.

everybody......i meant dx10....please dont misunderstand me
i really meant dx10, i dunno how i ended writing dx11...it was a real mistake, seriously

please forgive me for my mistake
wat i meant was if OP can extend his budget, he shud go for 4870
else gts 250....
