NVIDIA'S GEFORCE 7600 GS, its AGP card, will get a new follower, cleverly codenamed G84 AGP.

This card will be a Direct X 10 chip aimed at AGP upgrade market, as you have not been able to buy new AGP systems for a while now.

It is an interesting choice as but shows the value of this legacy market. The card is scheduled for April and this means that AGP upgrade market will get a DirectX 10 after all.

Early Vista adopters have to be thrilled about it as it will give them a chance to keep their bellowed Nforce 2 motherboards and Athlon XP CPUs or simply good old Netburst Pentium 4 marchitecture.

The G84 is set to replace Geforce 7600 GS cards and these cards sell for around €100, which is not bad deal for an AGP card.

The AGP version is possible due to the fact that G84 chips are pin-to-pin compatible with Geforce 6600 and 7600, so there were no modifications required in order that AGP market gets its DirectX 10 card.

a good effort i guess....but still think that rather than buying this people wld rather upgrade to pcie mobo and newer processors

Don't be so sure this won't sell. My desktop still has an athlon 64 3200+ clawhammer that does just fine..... the gfx card is too weak to play most of the newer games at any high setting though. If I were a gamer, I might upgrade the gfx card. And no, I wouldn't upgrade everything else. Just because someone wants to play games doesn't mean he is willing to sell his kids to finance it.

There are a lot of people who will buy Dx10 AGP cards. They clearly must have enough AGP NVidia GF 7x series customers to go for this... it isn't like they are going to score any brownie points from enthusiasts for this announcement.

^^^ true...but i was talkin abt the segment of ppl with agp slots on their mobos

thatd be athnlon xp and P4 ppl....75% and 25% ppl with a64 etc

now wat i figure is that ppl with axp and p4 dont have powerful enuf rigs to support them for dx10 gen cards....and next gen games (correct me if i m wrong) and itd be better for them to get a new rig first....just my .02$

^^ Yes, and my mobo only has an AGP slot.

For those who have forgotten, socket 754 and socket 940 only had AGP.

PCI-Express was an unnecessary thing foisted upon the world.

It made sense only if they had implemented it better in the form of all expansion slots being PCI-Ex. As things stand now, you have some PCI-Ex and some of them are more equal than others....
