Nvidia Starts Working on SLI 2

WE DON'T NEED to be in Taiwan to know what's going on in the industry but as you know it was not our choice to skip humid Computex show. We learned that Nvidia is working on a motherboard that will have more PCIe lanes and might actually get close to two times 16 PCIe lanes, the ultimate for PCIe graphic cards in SLI mode. However, we learned that even if Crossfire defeats SLI, Nvidia has some secret horses for a new race. It is working on something that we know as SLI 2.

As you know SLI, has been around for a few quarters now and Nvidia is working to improve this marchitecture. One of the teams was working to get some better silicon at the same time and that’s what we believe is going to be called SLI2.

LOL.....Tht crossfire cards sure kick ass ....nd has nvidia up nd running again....
Doom3 performance too looks great in the crossfire.....more than 70% improvement ......nd unlike SLI (60 games supported nd stuff) ....no hassles with Crossfire...

Well crossfire also isnt harnessing the super tiling features which ATI supports. Trust me now only if ATI improved their chipsets Nvidia will have some real competition in the multi GPU markets. As of now though Nvidia chipsets are way more superior.

Super tiling is a feature available in GPU's from R3xx onwards, in this method an image is broken in many tiles upto 32 and each tile can be rendered seprately by a GPU. It also supports diff chips and can be configured accordingly. So if you have an X800XL and a R520, 70% of the screen in this case around 22 tiles can be rendered by R520 and the rest by X800 XL.

But thts being done in the crossfire setup , isnt it???
just saw sme articles on AT , nd was confused there too
3 modes of rendering ......half-screen, tiling nd alternate frames ....

In crossfire I doubt if they will go over 2 GPU's industrial video editing houses at this moment are utilizing 32 Radeon 9800 pros in super tiling mode !!!

NO offence...... but I have heard that the Inquirer is not a 100% credible source. I have read people on TE itself be sceptical abt the Inquirer........

And what did you mean by sying that Crossfire previews are out??? I meant the source that nVidia are working on SLI2(which is obvious) but abt the 2 x PCIex16 lanes and all that......

Oh that, sorry got outta topic with with the rest. Yes Inquirer are nothing more then a "tabloid" of computer news, alongwith THG.

hmmmm 3dfx started this SLI concept (remember the vodoo 5500 series?) and now its catching up, maybe even S3, SIS, XGI will catch up :P
