Graphic Cards Nvidia unveils the GTX 690 - dual Kepler chips!

Altogether, for the GTX 690 we’re looking at a pair of fully enabled GK104 GPUs (1536 CUDA cores) clocked at 915MHz, paired with 4GB of 6GHz GDDR5 (2GB per GPU) all on a single card. The GPU boost target will be 1019MHz, though until we have a chance to review the card it’s hard to say what the average clockspeeds will be in most games. Taken altogether, this means the GTX 690 should be able to reach at least 91% of the GTX 680 SLI’s performance and probably closer to 95% depending on where GPU boost tops out.

Meanwhile on the software side the GTX 690 will have an adjustable power target and clock offsets just like the GTX 680. NVIDIA is giving the GTX 690 a max power target of +35%, which given the card’s default power target of 263W means it can be set to draw up to 355W. Until we have a chance to review the card it’s not clear just how many bins higher than the boost clock GPU boost can go, but even if the GTX 690 was unable to quite catch the GTX 680 SLI at standard settings the combination of a higher power target and a core clock offset should be more than enough to make sure it can be overclocked to GTX 680 specs. On paper at least some further overclocking should even be possible, as standard power target for GTX 680 is 170W; so 2x170W for GTX 680 SLI means that all else held equal, there’s still at least 15W of additional headroom to play with.

Yeah was waiting for the countdown to end .... Top of the line and very expensive... Lets see if the price drops a bit maybe to like $900

From a gaming perspective this is a total waste of money. There is no game currently in the market or on the horizon that will need this much horsepower.

Looking forward to the reviews though.

Sure, having this will endow you with a big e-peen but aren't we beyond that phase since the era of the 7800gtx.

I think those 27" and 30" displays with >1080p resolutions might actually need one or two of these cards for some of the titles to output acceptable frame rates.

Nvidia should focus more on the mainstream, enough with the room heaters and frying pans.

I haven't seen a decent mid-range bump since the 260, what they need is a winner like the 8800gt back in the day. Damn i loved my alpha dog before it went kaput.

Also they need to fire the guy who came up with the outrageous 640 lineup.

Exactly, they are catering to the niche market. 3d is a passing fad and not everyone games on 2560 or a 3d setup.

The card however does look sexy but $999 is too much for a gpu.

Well for Nvdia surround with 3 monitors this might be the card needed.. 5940 x 1080 resolution is a lot and if its in 3d 120 Hz then you need 2 of these in SLI

Rather get 2x 680s for the same money. Atleast if one dies, you have a backup

. Also 4 way scaling is pathetic anyway so dual 690's wont really be worth it.

^^ How is it cheaper? A stock GTX680 is $499. 2xGTX680 = $998. That's still a dollar cheaper than the 690. The standalone GTX680s also have higher clocks. You can get a couple of factory overclocked 680's with custom coolers for a bit more. Also as Chaos mentioned, if the price is going to be similar, then getting two cards makes a lot of sense as in case one of them goes bad, you would still have the other as backup. GTX680 would have made sense at $800 or even $850, but not more.

That makes perfect sense. If the price is going to be same, I would rather get 2 x GTX680 than this. The only advantages you get with this dual GPU card is saving space and the possibility for Quad SLI.

Technically, my 6950 CF is going a decent job of handling 1440p in games. but in graphics intensive games, I still have to bring a few settings down to get decent frame rates. I am still planning to get a couple of custom cooled 680's from US whenever my sister visits home. That would probably be my last GPU upgrade in while. I don't think I would even have needed a GPU upgrade anymore for a long time if not for the U2711.

Sry its the same price. Dunno why you would go with 2 680's when you can have this. Its 95% as fast as a 680 sli setup so really for me personally getting 2 makes no sense. Having 2 cards is really cool I understand the appeal of running such a setup but this is just way more convenient. And for you since you are going to water cool definitely this card with one full cover waterblock.

Ofc if you have the budget and you want to go hardcore oc getting 2 cards will prolly give you 50-100 extra mhz which is very nice.

I really like this card but yea the price is damn ..... but its 2 be expected it is as fast as 2 680's it costs as much its gonna consume less power and take just 2 slots.

On a personal note though if I were you I would wait for 780 before putting down cash for a couple of cards. Simple reason for me is that all the early speculation etc etc the 680 was really aimed at being a mid tier card. And traditionally nv mid tier matches ati top card so its no surprise 680 matched 7970 but at a much lower powerdraw. So if I were you sitting on a pretty potent setup already I would wait just a little longer for next gen because when nvidia release the true X80 chip that thing will be fast, hot and make a much more sound investment.

You really think you would be gaming then

Anyway, yeah I really like this card, and talking about un needed horsepower,

m sure there are users who require that kinda power, its not really about the game being taking,

but rather the configurations and settings the games are being run on is surly taxing, like someone mentioned 3 monitors or even 6,

God know what people are doing these days

Anyway though I too would wait it out till August when the GK110 is supposed to be out,

but that is not gonna match this dual in performace at all, thats for sure, no where can the GK110 be equal to 2x GK104.

So yeah for 1000$, I am sure somewhere this is a demand for it, hence it would have never been created.

As for me, where are the EVGA's GTX 680 HydroCopper Classfied already ??

Above HD7870 nothing makes sense to me. 1920x1080 gaming FTW!

+1 to that! I still don't see no reason. Max gamers are on 1080p. This huge chunk of beast is not even worth the money for guys like us. Still contented with my 6950. If needed best option would be CF'ing a 6950.

For purely gaming yes. But if you want to dabble with opengl or compute, you need tahiti for 1:4 FP64. With firepro/firestream modded drivers, it'll probably become the absolutely ideal 1:2. Compare that to 1:16 for Pitcairn and a lousy 1:24 for Kepler GK104.

Did not get these ratios? What do they imply?
