I am having an odd issue running old games such as deus ex, UT GOTY, Empire Earth etc. on windows 7. These games take about 2 mins to launch after double click. If use task manager to shut down the game before it launches and launch the game again, it starts instantly. If I close the game and open it again, it takes 2 mins to start. System is a bit old for windows 7 but it works fine. I have absolutely no issue exept in old games. This problem is not there with newer games, for instance nexuiz launches instantly. Here are my system specs :-

Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 running on intel 946gzis with 1 Gb transcend RAM. I am using the integrated graphics which is more than enough for the old games.

Is anyone else facing this issue? One interesting thing that I found was that games like ioquake3 which are tested on windows 7 work fine and start up instantly. Since I am having issues only with certain old games, I guess it should be a generic issue that everyone faces. But the number of people playing old games and running windows 7 seems to be very minuscule. Here are games which have starting trouble. All of them exhibit the exact same behavior(does not load first time):
UT:GOTY
Deus EX
Empire Earth
Mafia
Half-life, Opposing force, Blueshift

Games unaffected :-
Ioquake3
Nexuiz.

Is there any compatibility mode like in Xp ? Also I check your systems memory consumptions - for Win7 2gb is minimum

I don't know about your specific probs, but Gog.com has many old games which they have made compatible with Vista and are around $10 or less
