PC Peripherals One crib about the Samsung 2033sw+

... apart from the narrow viewing angles ... it's very difficult to attach the DVI ( or VGA ) cable.

Just got my DVI cable ( ... another crib : no DVI cable included ... ) from Monoprice - it's much thicker and stiffer than the DVI cables we get here and it has a large ferrite near the connector. It was a real pain to attach it to the DVI port on the 2033sw+. The port is located very awkwardly and the monitor frame is wider just below the DVI/VGA port. See : http://www.samsung.com/in/system/consumer/product/2009/07/15/ls20cmzkfnalxl/06_largem.jpg

I had to bend the cable at almost a right angle just below the DVI port. No one at Samsung actually uses a Samsung monitor ?
Or am I just ham-fisted ?

I have the samsung 2233, didnt face any such problems. It has a similar design.

Why do you have to bend the cable there is plenty of space at the bottom.

What was the cost of the cable, can you please post a screenshot.

I'm one of the few who don't own a digicam or mobile so can't post a image.

Length of DVI connector to end of the screw is 4 cm and there is just 1cm of space below that to bend the cable. Distance between ferrite and connector is < 3 cm so you can imagine. See :

I do not think it is that difficult.the agony might be that you need to lift the monitor to connect the dvi cable. I got mine during purchase of the monitor itself so did not notice that pain. Though the time taken to fix the stand took me more time. ;-)

Well I have a different monitor. But I also realized putting in the DVI and screwing it in tight would be difficult if the monitor is standing on the stand. So I put on the stand and lay the monitor down flat on the screen. Then leisurely put in the DVI connector, and screwed it fit. It seemed to work.

I've bought 4 sw2033s in the past year. Attaching the stand for the first one drove me nuts. Then I remembered "rtfm".

Look at the 2033sw box. There are instructions ( pictures ) there. If followed, it's pretty easy. Basically attach the 'neck' to the base first using the screw on the base. Then place the neck+base on a table and press the monitor frame into the neck socket moving the frame side to side slightly.

^^

Really do not know what to say. Not being able to attach a stand/DVI cable -- does not make it a bad monitor. It is not as complicated as assembling a whole motheboard..system. Its pretty simple.

Uh ... I did not say it's a bad monitor, only that it's difficult to attach a ( or more correctly the Monoprice ) DVI cable to the 2033.
Have you set up a 2033 ?

Unless you follow the Samsung instructions exactly, attaching the monitor to the stand is very difficult for the 2033, and 2233 I think.

^^

Sorry if I said that....well not setup a 2033. Can understand it must be difficult, and is not that quick 'out of the box ready'.

I just feared that the pressure applied to fix the stand might damage the lcd. Had even asked a query how to fix the stand without the rubber or with it .
Got quick replies and suggestion to apply vaseline jelly to the rubber and fix the stand. That made it very easy.that procedure cannot be taught but learnt from experience which i got it from here on te.

Do not worry. All is well!!
The problems i had were all during my purchase in july 09. All things have been sorted by the next 2 days of me setting up my pc.

Poboy, i see that the 2033 follows the same design as the 2233SW, so it has lots of space below the DVI slot as well.

The only difference i see is i got a Dell DVI cable for 200 bucks and fitted it easily, while the one you got from monoprice has a huge bottom or a tail that's not ready to fit in! :p

So, the issue looks to me like with the cable and not the monitor. Though other users of 2033 can advise better. :)
And be careful if the cable is not fitting properly, else the pins might break.

The point is if only the monitor frame did not jut out below the connector, there wouldn't be any prob. Wonder why Samsung did that.

When I made a product suggestion to Samsung for the same this is what they said :
We apologize for the inconvenience you are facing with your SAMSUNG
product.
We would like to request you to please contact Samsung customer contact
centre regarding yourquery.

IMO You've got a stiff cable which is not one desires for. I checked my cable and it was easy to disconnect and reconnect.

I have the same monitor and plugging in and out the cable is really easy. I got the dvi cable for free. It would have been better if you could take some time and provide pictures. The only problem was putting the monitor on the stand, everything else is just fine and worth the money.
