PC Peripherals Online registration for hardware products?

Hi all,
have a few queries regarding online registration of pc peripherals e.g.: mobo, graphic card, HDD etc. with the manufacturer's site?

1) What is the importance of product registration online?
2) What if we haven't done it yet?
3) Any specific time from purchase within which the product has to be registered? What if the time has elapsed?
4) You experiences/additional gyan :)

So far i've been returning the peripherals back to my vendor at lammy, so never had to even visit the RMA center of any brand/product. hence never bothered of registration online.

Let me give you example of Zotac Brand. I have heared that you get standard 3 years warranty with it, but after online registration, you get additional 2 years warranty.

I also never bothered to register any product till now. So all companies have different policies.
