Forum Feedback Option to tag member in a post

I have seen this feature on some other forums (and Facebook). Sometimes we want a particular member to reply to our query but he may not visit the thread and in such case there is no other option but to PM that member. So I think ability to tag a member would be helpful in this (and many other) scenarios.

PS: No idea if this was discussed before. If that is the case, mods pls delete this thread.
 
@OP, that will be helpful, lets the mods pour their thoughts,

IIRC this matter was discussed before, and sadly mods rejected :P

This is Already implemented in a few forums

err.. you din't get the motive of this thread.

It may happen that a members might forget after posting , it will just serve as a reminder that some activity is in progress.

To reply or not to reply later on, is at the discretion of the member. :)

If he doesnt wish to reply its totally upon him but what if he wanted to reply and he missed a thread ?

Its only about making a particular member notify about a certain thread and wanting his opinion
 
I forgot to add in original post that there is one possible drawback of this - some impatient members or noobies may go on tagging a member everyday or every few hours in multiple posts and that can become headache if the member is popular and already receives many such tags everyday. I have seen this happen on few other forums.
But there is always a downside to any feature.
 
IMO, its quite a useful feature that must be implemented. Another thing is that the number of such tags/notifications that can be sent by each member must be limited per day.
 
Where is this feature implemented? Please PM me with the example. We will see if this is available off the shelf and what features does it have. It should ideally give the members an option to opt out.
 
Also it will help in Feedback of market section where OP can tag the other party involved in deal from which he/she expect responce.
 
Long time ago I had suggested the same thing and it was turned down.

Reason: This isn't a social website like facebook, or something on those lines.

Solution: Stick to PMs. There is a reason language is moderated here, and same thing applies here.

Though frankly I would still like this feature to be tested for a while if possible if not fully implemented, to check if it does turn out to be a big mess on this forum (its a possibility)

I should have guessed as much :lol:

I understood what is being asked here from RVK's PM and it is of course technically possible. It is also possible for members to turn off the notifications from the settings. However we are still not sure of its mass utility and system load.

Anyway let us discuss within staff.
