Well, after 2 months of careful research and thought, I finally ordered my next Laptop, a Dell 1400 N Series Laptop. Below is the config
1) 2.0 GHz, 4MB Cache, 800 MHz FSB (Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T7300)
2) DOS Factory Installed (English) - No Genuine Windows
3) Integrated 10/100 Fast Ethernet
4) Dell(TM) Keyboard with Touchpad (English)
5) Internal 56K Modem
6) RJ-11 Modem cable (AP)
7) 14.1" UltraSharp(TM) Widescreen WXGA+ (1440x900)
TFT Display with TrueLife(TM)
8) 2GB (2 X 1024MB) 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
9) Integrated Stereo Sound
10) Intel(R) Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
11) 120GB SATA Hard Drive
12) Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Combination Drive with dual layer write capabilities
13) Dell(TM) Wireless 355 Bluetooth Module
14) Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945 Dual Band 802.11a/g 54
15) Black LCD Cover without Camera
16) Premium matte black finish and dark chrome accent
17) 90W AC Adapter
18) 9-cell 85Whr Lithium Ion Primary Battery
19) Dell Light Weight Nylon Case

It cost me 57.5 K after many negotiations with Dell agents and their Supervisor. I was in hurry now hence I ordered it, though I think there's scope for 1.5 K more bargain :)

How much was the quote initially on the site? (before u reduced it to 57.5k i mean) Wil be helpful to everyone else as we can see how much margin is adjustable :D

@techie_007 - it was 63 K initially on their website

@Ank1t - actually I needed this Laptop for running a simulator (not gaming simulator) that really drains out memory and hard on CPU....it's an official thing.....wasn't really interested in games (I've a solid PC for that), hence opted for default x3100..

Hi!..Can one install Windows XP Pro SP2 later on the Dell Vostro 1400 N Series Laptop mentioned above...quick response appreciated...as I am about to go for it. Thanks...

Yes the drivers are available on th dell website, you can get them easily but i think you will get the driver cd with the laptop so dont worry..
just keep your xp cd ready for wen the installation guy comes since you got the n series one with out os..

Vostro is a good laptop, but just check it thoroughly when you receive it, if theres some problem you can call up dell.. check the screen and the body above the hinges of the screen..had issues with it and got my laptop replaced..
But dont worry..your investment is safe..

this is a very very expensive deal

u can get an HP pavilion DC6767tx for Rs.55,000

Core 2 Duo 1.83GHz | 3 GB RAM | 250 GB Hard Disk
15.4†Widescreen | NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M Graphics Card
WebCam Mic | Bluetooth | 3 USB 2.0, 1 HDMI, S-video TV out,
Remote control | Fingerprint Reader
Vista Home Premium

An HP counterpart for ur config will be DV2701tx, for around 46-47K
& not to mention, the hp pavilions look 10x better than fugly dells

& u call it
" 2 months of careful research and thought"
??
