Guide
Have just bought an external HDD.

I want to divide it up into 2-3 partitions as I want to use it as a Linux Live disk and store different types of files in different partitions.

So please tell me how can I split it up into 2-3 partitions and those partitions should be readable in Linux Mint which is present on the internal HDD already.
And also tell me what the type of the partitions should be e.g Primary, Logical, Extended
and also mention the application which I should use.

For 2-3 partions Primary sounds nice. Unless you are thinking of expanding it.

For linux based system, simply plug the device and boot through linux live cd, Using gparted easily partition the device as you like. For Linux installation make one of the partition as ext4 and size upto ~20gb, defines the size of other according tot your wish.
