Paypal is safe, provided you make transactions to person, who has a verified account at PayPal.

@ Blue, paypal is just like western union.

There is no buyer protection given by paypal.

I have no idea about ewallets.

Lets see what u mean by reliabilty and secure..

Paypal is a reliable and secure way for sending money, but once the money is out of your hands, there is no way, u can challenge that transaction, UNLESS U PAID THE MONEY TO PAYPAL FROM UR CREDIT CARD. I put that in bold caps, cuz, the credit card company can do a charge back for u, if u can prove u were cheated. if the money is taken from ur bank account, then its gone.

Frauds happen commonly with auction sites such as ebay.

Even if the person has a verified paypal account, he can take your money and not send u the goods u purchased.

So the bottom line is, how u define secure and reliability. For ex, U wanna send money to me thru paypal. The chances that somebody else will get ur money is almost nil. In that way, its secure and reliable. Now, I'm supposed to send u a digicam after getting ur money. If I don't, there's nothing paypal will do for u to get ur money back, (unless they offer u the optional buyer protection, which may cost u extra money and which has serious conditions attached to it. see attached qoute.).

If you paid for an item and never received it or received an item that was significantly not as described, your transaction must meet each of the following requirements to be eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection:

• The PayPal Buyer Protection icon must be displayed in the Seller Information box on eBay
  
• Your purchase must be a physical item -- services and intangible items are not covered
