My bro just bought his transcend pen drive from classes and it contained some KTPER.EXE & KTPER.SCR virus. None of the files can be deleted but only copied to and from the pen drive.

I tried using Unlocker assisstant and unlocked the files but access denied error and then suddenly all files disappeared and only two new folders remained with some names and which too cant be deleted. And then now when i try to access the drive via my computer it ask to format and when i try to perform it can even format and says THE DISK IS WRITE PROTECTED & CANNOT BE FORMATTED.

I even tried Hard Disk Low Level Format Tool but even that dint solved the problem.

In classes they use apple systems and its strange it carries such viruses.

pls help as i googled and dint find any suitable solution and any pukka info on this virus.

How to format the drive successfully?

I have combo fix and i have nod32 and autorun virus remover updated but even that dint help.

^ if the pen driver fail to format it why can to RMA it and show the detail that contain virus so it unable to format it ;)

Well....Boot from XP CD while keeping the pen drive plugged in....And when the partitions shows up asking where to install XP.....Delete the pen drive partition from there and exit. Now boot into XP normally go to Disk Management, it will show you as unallocated space, now create the partition.

I did it lot of times.

I assumed here that you are using XP. The process is same if you use any other OS.

use linux live distro to use GParted disk utility.

or you can just google for gparted and there exists a standalone bootable version i guess..

@ madnav thx but i formatted the pen drive on another xp machine.

But now dont know whats wrong with my Windows xpsp3? No anti virus or any spamware/malware is able to correct it. Also since the attack all system fonts have changed to italic and bold right from logon screen to shutdown and have affected each n every program.

i know the solution left is to fresh install xp but what if again same virus comes? We wanna defend n not simply run from this scenario.

still any valuable inputs can be of great help.

Try any other antivirus. I recommend AVG Free. Download and update it and run a full system scan in Safe Mode. Also scan with Malwarebytes. But before all these monitor task manager and startup for any unwanted entries. If found remove them and boot into safe mode and perform the tasks.

Go for Bit Defender total security... It works great at cost of your memory area... If you have paid for it, then go for it...

Have you tried diskmgmt.msc from run command. After you get this, try Right click and Format or something like New Volume. One more thing I have noticed is if its Non-windows i.e., if you are trying from a Mac and the Pen drive is in NTFS format, you can only read not write. Hope it helps.
