Hello Friends,

I am building new rig for memory and processor intensive application.

I would be playing games too but not so much. So plz go through my config and suggest better changes :)

Also please mention current price of parts and I would be very grateful :hap2:

My budget is around 60k but flexible.

Config
---------------
Intel Core i7 920 - D0

ASUS P6T or any good mobo with 24GB RAM support , SLI and Intel VT-d support in BIOS (ASRock X58 Extreme is also very good but don't know how it will perform) and should be ATX ... i might need to add Intel Gigabit card and True RAID controller later

Xigmatek Thor's Hammer S126384 (plz suggest good fan for this) or Thermalright Ultra120 eXtreme 1366 RT

CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W

CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB TR3X6G1600C8D or OCZ OCZ3P1600LV6GK

WD Caviar Black WD1001FALS

Please suggest a good cabinet for this system (it may run 16 hours a day without break) ... I have CoolerMaster 690 in mind

I would also buy 17-19 inch LCD so plz suggest better value LCD in this size.

For GFX, I think GTX 260 will be best (actually overkill) but let me know better value cards ... I prefer Nvidia

Valued Wireless kbd and mouse pair
-------

Please guys ... need you opinions ... also mention latest price if u have.

Best regards,
Kekerode

Go for Gigabyte X58-UD5 or EVGA X58 3x SLI both are around 18k .or u can get DFI X58 if u buy after few days ... Asus one is not that good

Xigmatek Thor's Hammer S126384 (plz suggest good fan for this) or Thermalright Ultra120 eXtreme 1366 RT

TRUE normal is not available i think , black edition + retention bracket will cost over 4k , get thor's hammer + Scythe Kaze jyuni 110cfm fan ( 700 bux from kmd )

CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W

should be around 8k

CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB TR3X6G1600C8D or OCZ OCZ3P1600LV6GK

Go for OCZ , get it for around 6k from kmd , dominator 1600 CL8 is not worthy at 12k

WD Caviar Black WD1001FALS

Please suggest a good cabinet for this system (it may run 16 hours a day without break) ... I have CoolerMaster 690 in mind

get CM HAF 922 at ~ 6k , silent fans and roomy also .

I would also buy 17-19 inch LCD so plz suggest better value LCD in this size.

get BenQ 24" / Dell S2409 at 11-13k

For GFX, I think GTX 260 will be best (actually overkill) but let me know better value cards ... I prefer Nvidia

GTX 260 is a good choice , palit sonic edition is around 10.5k , u can get msi twin frozr model at ~ 11.5k also

:hap2: ....

thank you guys .... all of you :)

Now CPU cooler is decided ... that will be Prolimatech Meghalem CPU Cooler with Scythe Kaze jyuni 120cfm fan :D

I'll try to get CM HAF 922 under my budget if not then CM-690 may be last choice.

Can anybody suggest a good cheap LCD of 17-19 inches plz ? :( .... bcoz only for gaming I will use it otherwise I would be controlling this machine from my laptop and I don't have enough space for big screens

And of course OCZ OCZ3P1600LV6GK would do the job nicely ... I'll try to get it from KMD

Good choice on the cooler, the best one out there as of now.

If you can't fit HAF 922, give the NZXT Tempest a thought instead of the CM690.

Your config should be good enough for full HD gaming, so if you need to choose a smaller display due to size/budget constrains, go ahead and pick up any 17/19incher, you can upgrade later on.

Get these OCZ flex RAM instead of the Platinum ones, they're currently available for a steal:-
Newegg.com - OCZ Flex EX Series 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kits Desktop Memory Model OCZ3FXE1600C7LV6GK - Desktop Memory

The PSU you've listed is overkill. Consider a GlacialPower AL650AA instead, or a Corsair 6xx HX/TX if you want to spend more.

Thanks Amien :eek:hyeah: .... very nice option NZXT Tempest .... certainly better than CM-690 ... any idea abt price here in Mumbai plz :S

OCZ Flex EX OCZ3FXE1600C7LV6GK is wonderful at 7-7-7-24 timings but I m going to add more RAM in future and width of these modules may make trouble since now i m confused with mobo (although OCZ replied on newegg that filling all 6 slots may not be problem) ... But for sure i'll PM KMD for price :hap2:

I m getting 750 watt bcoz later i have plan to add 2 more hdd for raid setup (RAID controller too if must :) ) and do SLI after 1 year i guess

get the LG W1943 18.5 inches @ 6550

thx lonelymanav ... model updated in temp list on paper :hap2:
Hi friends ... can anybody make clear about Intel VT-d support on EX-UD5 plz? .... mobo looks very good from reviews and cheaper than ASUS one :)

Tempest is 6k locally.

You won't be needing more than 6GB of RAM(6GB itself is actually not needed as well, 3GB being the sweet spot) anytime soon, trust me. Do check for clearance though(AFAIK these sticks don't require as much clearance as their DDR2 cousins), if everything is good then those sticks at this price are a no-brainer.

2 more HDDs do not warrant that much power. Buy what you need now, rest later. Whatever you buy now will surely cost you more than buying it a year later. Although if you have surplus budget, you can go for it.

And yes, the Gigabyte UD5 is an excellent choice. (could you elaborate on the VT(virtulization?) part? didn't quite get you there).

Your CPU's VT support is provided by your BIOS and is limited by a bios flash, if it is not seen in your OS.

Just upgrade your BIOS if it does not supports VT.

On VT-d part, VT-d has been ratified last year only. So do not expect it so early on desktops.

Anyway even if it would be available, a game running in a VM cannot give you the performance of a base install.

VT-d support would be available on hypervisor level which are Xen, esx35/esx40 and hyperv mostly. Do not run after VT-d, it is more for server market out there as of now.

I was not sure if you meant VT or VT-d so gave answers for both.

Hi Amien ... I m already using 4GB RAM fully using multiple VMs :D ... that's one of the reason that in future i may go for adding more RAM (CPU seems quite capable so it may not get upgraded)

Intel VT-d is for Intel® Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O

U can see option to enable/diable it in northbridge config in BIOS which I saw in ASUS P6T manual but couldn't find in EX58-UD5 or EVGA X58 SLI

I think i'll take chances on this feature for EX58-UD5 or EVGA X58 SLI :hap2:

now i have to search all over again for comparing this two mobo :hap2:

Hi blufox ... thanks for ur inputs :D

No way I m going to play any game in any VMs  ... VMs will be only for my learning and yes correct ... VT-d will be used only with hypervisor only ... that's my plan exactly once this machine is build

If u check ASUS P6T or even Deluxe version then VT-d support is given in BIOS. As X58 chipset supports VT-d, it's merely matter of time and BIOS update to get this option in other mobo. (In fact i though of building server but gaming lust stopped me:eek:hyeah:)

But here the real Q comes ... will there be this support ever ... EX58-UD5 fixed Intel VT-x support in F4 release i guess

But again this VT-d is no big deal :p ... so cheers if not enabled

Hi friends :Hi:... i did search on both mobos and looks like I can't go with EX58-UD5 because RAM slots are very near to CPU socket

And EVGA X58 SLI is also good mobo ... I just checked these 2 excellent mobo from DFI (available in TE by PhOeNiX)
Newegg.com - DFI LP UT X58-T3eH8 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards
Newegg.com - Open Box: DFI LP DK X58-T3eH6 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

Please advice abt them .:sos:.. all my needs r getting fulfilled by both DFI boards and EVGA board.

Regards,
Kekerode

xD, im aware what VT is, i didn't understand your question regarding it though, anyway, bluefox answered your query :)

Both are excellent, go with whatever you get the better deal on.
Also, don't discount the UD5 till you've confirmed the dimensions will be a problem for the stuff you want it to go with. It's great VFM that board...

Greeting friends ... at last I decided to go with DFI UT X58-T3eH8 + Intel i7 920 D0 combo deal :eek:hyeah:

Also CM Storm cabinet most likey select from rahul2003

Still need to decide PSU between CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W and GlacialPower AL650AA

I saw review of GlacialPower AL650AA ... it doesn't provide protection against spike ... but does CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX do? ... couldn't find that info :(

Hi all buddies ... everything decided and purchased or placed orders. :eek:hyeah:

Only soul or motherboard is missing :S

From reviews saw that DFI is having high temperature with digital PWM so if any damage occurs then don't know if warranty will cover it or not :( ... (asked dealer abt it)

Now I have final selection - ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 or Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5

price diff is around 4-5k (huge one :O) [ASUS' Marvell controllers perform better in n/w and storage]

Both mobo are great ... OC very well ... both have all features I want

Only issue is for Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 with Megahalem, I won't be able to use first RAM slot (RAM is ~65mm tall and space is only 40mm:( ... but can use push-pull config) ... while this isn't issue on ASUS

I would be doing 24x7 OC around 3.3-3.5 GHz ... not more :)

So guys ... please advice ... abt warranty service given for this two mobos in Mumbai ... If u own this then let me know if u faced any issue with heat or OC stability plz

Thanks in advance ... regards

Great News ... had a talk with PhOeNiX abt it.

So now I have to choose between DFI LP UT X58 (still digital PWM temp is high ) and ASUS P6T Deluxe V2.

Please help me to choose between them.
