Although it is currently moving away from the Symbian operating system, Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia still has in plan a series of devices based on this platform, and the Nokia 500 that can be seen in the photo to the left should be one of them.

The handset was already spotted into the wild with the codename of “Fate†attached to it, and accompanied by a number of three other Symbian phones from the vendor, but this is the first time we can have a look at the actual device.

No official details on the hardware specifications or on the capabilities of this device have surfaced so far, but rumors on the matter already emerged.

Thus, the phone is expected to hit the shelves with a 1GHz application processor inside, which would make it quite powerful, that's for sure.

It would also be one of the first Nokia Symbian devices to sport such a processor inside, which makes some doubt the actual existence of such a phone from the company.

However, as the advertisement to the left shows, the Nokia 500 would also come with a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, and with interchangeable back plates, as well as with WiFi connectivity.

Reportedly, this would be the lower spec'd mobile phone from the series of four upcoming Symbian devices that leaked from Nokia.

Even so, with a 1GHz application processor inside, the handset will be more powerful than the existing Nokia smartphones.

A few months ago, Nokia promised that it would still release a wide range of Symbian phones, and that they would also be impressive devices, and it seems that the first batch of such handsets is actually close.

All that remains to be seen is when would these smartphones start to emerge on shelves, and how they would compete against Nokia's upcoming Windows Phones.

While we were talking about the "idiotic" naming convention of Nokia phones in another thread, here comes another example of that.

This thing looks a lot like c5-03. I do hope that they have put a Capacitive touch. With decent droids now available for some 8k bucks, I don't see a reason for releasing S60 midrange devices.

It's rumoured that this new batch of S^3 devices may have Broadcom BCM2763 :O
IF it's true, then 1GHz proc + 512MB RAM (guessing this cause existing devices have 256) + BCM2763 + S^3 Belle is gonna be a very good combo for mid range. Just hoping that they use AF camera in atleast few of those

@desiibond
its also rumoured that these 2nd batch of devices will have CBD. So atleast capacitve is for sure ;)

that might put it above 10k, due to the production costs for CBD. anyways, lets' wait and see.

^^ that's a great pricing. Damn I wish it had a front facing cam for video calls. Otherwise, would have gone for this.
