Hi all,

I'm planning to buy Dell Inspiron 530 desktop. I've finalized the configuration with 19" monitor. My dilemma is whether to go for a wide screen Model SE198WFP of normal ultrasharp 1908FP. I'm totally confused.

I kindly request members to help me out.

Thanks,
Deepak

The SE198WFP has a horizontal and vertical viewing angle of 80 degrees, which basically means that even if u so much as turn the monitor slightly it wont be visible. Hence going for that one would be plain stupid.
As for the 1908fp, i would recommend this over the other one but the prob with this is that it is not widescreen, though i personally prefer a widescreen, its a personal choice in the end.
And finally i would only advice u to assemble a system yourself rather than buying an branded system, cause for the same specs i bet you could save about 20-30%.
So Cheers Mate!! :hap2:

The dell website says viewing angles for SE198WFP is 160 degrees (both horizontal and vertical)

Thanks a lot for the reply. I checked in SP road Bangalore. For the same as Dell Q240806N configuration (Dell price Rs. 37000) I can get for Rs. 30000 without OS. Here dell is giving Vista home premium for this price.

Kindly suggest.

Regards,
Deepak

hey, i dint really get ur last response, is dell giving u the machine for 30k along with vista home premium or wat?
Cause at 30k, its a pretty decent deal, but still the prob with branded pcs is that the warranty is normally jus 1 year, and for extension they charge absurd amount of money.
Anyways heres the pic for the screen specs which i got from the dell india site:

Actually i cant figure out how to post pics, so anyways go 2 the configure page of the inspiron e530 and there on the monitors selects learn more, and then select compare side by side and ul find the specs ther.

But seriously for 30k wit os is not at all a bad deal, do lemme know wat price u get it at finally.
cheers!!:hap2:

hi amityrock,

Sorry for the confusion. Actually I've got a quote from Dell on Inspiron desktop Q240806N (Intel E4400, 1GB RAM, 25GD HDD, 19" Ultrasharp, Vista home premium) for Rs. 38,000/-. Assembled PC with the same configuration without OS I can get it for Rs. 30,000/-. As you said the warranty is only 1yr.

Now the question is:
DELL with OS - 38k
ASSEMBLED w/o OS - 30k

Which one to go for? Need help on this.

Regards,
Deepak

Well i dunno very much on this stuff but if u get assembled PC the OS will be mostly pirated....and Vista original stuff is for 18K, i guess (saw it in Spencers Plaza)...

But with Dell u get the original Vista and also the 1yr warranty..

I have no experience with assembled PC, I'm using a IBM computer and i haven't got a single problem for which i needed to avail the warranty...*touch-wood*...:D

I would suggest that if it is ur first PC and u DON'T want to upgrade for the next 2-3 yrs then go for DELL....coz upgrading is hell with branded PCs...else go with assembled PC which u can upgrade as and when u want...:)

umm...if u have some more cash to burn then try and get a bigger hard disk coz 25GB is tooooo small....and if u are running Vista then try and get 2GB RAM...

let the gurus here shed some more light..:D

pretty much agree with what longlife has said but am guessing that the hdd is 250gb since the minimum on dell is 160gb from what i see

also i guess your assembled pc will be skimping on the psu which i dont think the dell will .

hey, well i guess its a matter of personal choice and comfort again, branded or assembled. Frankly my last pc was an ibm, despite having been following the comp hardware for such a long time, its wat u feel more comfortable with. Though this time i plan to configure my machine if i can find the right supplier.

Anyways as for your dell, theres a new config out today: Q240902N - Dell Inspiron 530 Desktop I configured it with the same specs as your and the online price of the laptop was 34-35k (with vista home and 1908 monitor) . So im assuming if you call up the customer care and bargain real hard you could get much better deal than 38k, prob somewher around 35-36k also.

So give it a try!

sorry for the little hijack...:P

how much time does it take for the DELL Hardware to come home if ordered online??

well i dont know about dell india, but in the us, iv ordered a couple of times and it took about 2-3 weeks both the times. And that was for a laptop, dont know if it differs for a desktop.
