Hi,

I am planning to buy a new gfx card and below is the configuration of my machine

1. What is your budget? max 10k
2. Current rig Specs
CPU -- AMD Phenom II 550BE
Motherboard -- BioStar 785GE
RAM -- 2GB DDR2
Monitor -- Samsung 2233 22"
3. Which PSU/SMPS will you be using? Rating + Brand -- Gigabyte Superb 460
4. Primary use? (Casual gaming, Hardcore gaming, Just for display, Movies/HTPC) -- Casual gaming, Movies
5. What resolution do you game on? -- 1920 * 1080 if possible
6. Interested in Crossfire/SLI? -- Not sure how to do this
7. Open to both Nvidia/ATI? - Yes

I have ATI HD 6850 in mind but i doubt whether my SMPS(Gigabyte Superb 460) can support it.

So thinking of going to HD 5670/6670 or anything higher

Please suggest me a VFM graphics card which can work with my existing SMPS, Motherboard.

Thanks

Go for the AMD HD 6850, your SMPS should manage to pull it. You'll be a little future-proofed as well, but my honest suggestion to you is please if you can wait hold out till the release of AMD Southern Islands [HD 7*** series] and along with that you get the requiste bonuses of smaller fabrication + better thermals + also there has to be a decent bump in performance in between the two architectures, maybe a new architecture itself will be revealed -- AnandTech - AMD's Graphics Core Next Preview: AMD's New GPU, Architected For Compute.

I'll say appearances should be ~late October -- early November time period, stable availability ~late January and prices should stabilize ~late February. Hope this helps Sire. Cheers!!!

so i should go ahead with my upgrade keeping in mind a time period of 6 months or so

EDIT: Should i go with saffire 560 [non Ti] or 5850

^^ Go for the GTX 560, if you can accommodate a Ti edition, much better. But in my views the best cards in that price range are AMD HD 6950 1GB ~ 14000/- [inclusive taxes].

My XFX 7600GT graphic card fan stopped working took it for fan replacement but didn't find any one willing to replace the fan of graphic card, its out of warranty. I need to change the graphic card urgently with similar capability but could not choose much from as latest graphic cards will require the SMPS also to be changed.

I bought msi N210 for 2300 from SMC International Nehru Place.

MSI Global ? Graphics Card - N210-MD1G/D3

but this one lags the youtube/ streaming video though it works with my Zebronic platinum 450 watt.

Can you suggest a PCI-E card which works within 450 watt & can handle video frame perfectly, I will be changing the system in 6-8 months from now & give this system to kids for video tv watching mainly.

1. What is your budget? max 3.5k

2. Current rig Specs

see signature below

3. Which PSU/SMPS will you be using? Rating + Brand -- Zebronics Platinum 450Watts

4. Primary use? (Casual gaming, Hardcore gaming, Just for display, Movies/HTPC) -- Graphic editing, Movies

5. What resolution do you game on? not much gaming but kids might play if its able to do 1050x1680 then its good.

6. Interested in Crossfire/SLI? -- NO not at all

7. Open to both Nvidia/ATI? - Yes but prefer Nvidia
