Storage Solutions portable hdd not detected

i have a 320GB Maxtor portable hdd.
when i plug in the cable into the USB port, it the light on hdd glows, that means power supply problem is not there.
But it's been not detected on the PC.
i tried it wid my laptop also..but same problem.

make sure that you are using propriety cable.
and a corrupt OS also can be the culprit.

Check for both.

have u tried safe mode?it helps in some cases.

Maxtor one needs both the cables to be plugged in for it run without hassles. Which OS are you using? Do you hear a click sound when it is connected?

also, try if is getting detected under disk management.

go to run -> diskmgmt.msc
