I don't know if this has been discussed before..
but is it possible to have any rule about posting pics in threads?
sometimes people post a lot of pics and the total size exceeds 2-3MBs..takes whole lot of time to load the thread...
sometimes the pics are not even worth it.
it just feels wastage of bandwidth sometimes when pics are not the important content of those threads..

for example, a sale thread with 5items having 2posts each of high resolution can take forever to load the thread..people have no option to wait for the pics to load even when they are not interested in all 5 items..

cant there be able use thumbnail linkers instead?
because even auto-resize requires the pic to be loaded completely.

many image-hosting sites provide thumbnail codes so it should not be a huge task to follow.

can this be possible incase there is similar demand from more number of members? :ashamed:

The logic is, in Market and in Showoff we dont give infraction to people for posting large pics.

Its their showoff and their items for sale and freedom is given to them to represent their items as they wish within our TE rules.

Everywhere else, we do tell people to post the thumbs.

Honestly, seller should keep these things in mind while posting pics and use combination of optimised larger pics and thumbs. But enforcing image size rules in market and showoff is going too far to be honest.

It can't be helped :| People don't bother about others nor they tend to read the rules. and if we infract them they keep on jabbering about what not, things like image size and resolution have been a a matter of concern and been discussed a lot of time.

We even framed simple rules for members to post thumbnails and reduce image resolution but to no avail. All they do is relentlessly post image just after taking it out from their cam. http://www.techenclave.com/guides-and-tutorials/image-posting-guidelines-a-must-read-130545.html http://www.techenclave.com/site-announcements/image-hosting-guidelines-a-must-read-136550.html

There should be some rule to keep them in check IMO. Images wherein the size shouldn't exceed some kBs and the max. resolution limited to 800x600.

There should be rules for posting images. Other than time and bandwidth waste sometime these direct images take over whole thread leaving big scrolls on display resolution like 1024X768.

Unfortunately the images are not stored on TE server so using GD library for auto-resizing and presenting the pics is out of question, since fetching them from other source and resizing would be too much for bandwidth and server load.

So it's really upto members to READ, UNDERSTAND and FOLLOW some simple rules which are as simple as common sense.

The solution is very simple really, force market threads to require any images to be uploaded as TE attachments.

As far as the show-off section goes, it's the poster's call to use some good sense and that really can't be enforced.

Well, I'm thankful that 'most' members are now sticking to a max. of 1600X1200, which is acceptable.

Anything higher than that is edited. :)

I hope members co-operate by considering the thumbnail tags without actually forcing a rule on them.

show-off can be understood as the obvious place to post them, agreed, cant really blame it.

also the idea of mix matching a few full sized images along with other images in thumbnails can be helpful for members with low bandwidth.

that's pretty much what I have to say about it.
