Have created a premium classifieds section where users who have been on TE for more than a year and have more than 1k posts are eligible to post threads and replies. It is not necessary to post there but allows an alternate option to older members who want a more restricted market section.

If this does not turn out to be useful then we can marge back the threads into the regular classifieds section after a few months. Any feedback and suggestions are welcome.

Good.
Also, are there any guidelines if buyer or seller renege on thier commitment to buy or sell / pay. Would be nice if something is done on this area.

Premium sounds like you need to pay money to be a part of this section. VIP Classifieds sounds more appropriate.
You know I was thinking the same. Though VIP sounds a bit abhorrent. Let's think of some other options.

That is the purpose of negative trader ratings. We do not want to get involved in the trade at this point.

Privileged?

sounds obnoxious lol :D

Edit - Weird that I had the exact same idea yesterday for separate market section. One suggestion - There can be a cooling-off period, like shift these premium classified posts to regular section after 24-48 hours? Old members get the first chance to grab these and if it doesn't get sold then newer members can get a chance too. This way the seller will get wider audience if the item isn't sold.

Visibility of these threads are not restricted as of now. So even the newer members who don't have posting privileges are able to see and make offers via PM. Currently the section only serves as a category for classification. But yeah, if we restrict the visibility then your idea seems useful to shift it out.

Then its no different than regular classifieds. People already communicate via PM only.

This will only help the buyer, if thats the purpose then its okay.

Great idea. Can we change minimum post criteria to 938 (instead of 1k). :p

Just kidding. I am not planning to sell anything as of now.

I think the number of deals and feedback should also play a part in deciding access to a reserved selling forum.

If I was a seller, I wouldn't want the viewing to be limited, would I now.
But as the other member pointed out above, not limiting the viewing, means the new section hardly serves a purpose because even in the normal MP, the potential buyers can see the sellers statistics.

So, for now, I think it will be a good experiment to limit the viewing capabilities as well and see if the sellers find it of any use or not, or do they prefer posting in the normal MP for more chances of selling.

I think Premium Classifieds section shouldn't have new members visibility but as @xkcd0137 pointed out we should have a timeline when the thread should be moved to normal section and all members can view/comment on it. As a seller I would prefer to sell to a senior member but it doesn't mean I want to limit my options by not allowing chance to new members.

Just checked my last 5 feedbacks and 4/5 are relatively new members (waiting for another new member to confirm) so I would prefer
- Post a thread in Premium Classifieds section and after 24h move it to Classifieds section for more visibility.

IMO, premium classifieds should be visible to Adept and above level groups only.

And in addition to that, classifieds section should be visible to Disciple and above level groups only.

This will provide some kind of control from marketplace abuse and will make the forum to be treated like a forum instead of a trading site.

It could named "Trusted Classifieds" with unrestricted visiblity, but only allowing veteran members to post threads.

That way the veteran's opportunity to find a buyer isn't restricted because anyone can pursue through messages.

And the people who are only here for the marketplace would be limited to the regular classifieds section.

A step in right direction in my opinion. This should increase participation across other threads on forum.

I really like this. I would personally be encouraged to participate more just for this reason.

I disagree to an extent. A person's financial position can shift wildly over the course of a few years.

Also, a prominent link in the top menu would help to make others aware of the new section.

How does restricting visibility to a selected group help TE?

As I understand, this new section was created because some sellers kept spamming the normal classifieds with multiple posts and reselling stuff bought from here.
Or were there some other issues too?

IMO, the sellers/resellers who abuse the forum should be moderated/banned/restricted in line with the severity of their abuse. But as a new member myself, why would you want to restrict our usage of the forum or any sections of it. A few bad apples would just spam other sections to increase their post counts and earn those privileges if all they are here for is reselling stuff.
