Hi,

I recently upgraded from

P4 / 845G / 512 MB DDR1
to
AMD Athlon II X4 620 / Asus M4A785TD-V EVO / 2GB DDR3 1333MHz

Now, I have installed Ubuntu 9.04. But its not working properly. Even when I open firefox, if I am scrolling a page..its scrolls with jerks..not smooth :@
and I wanted to use Compiz to its full..but its not even detecting my graphics card..

I have installed it on a 16GGB partition + 4GB swap

please help..what am I doing wrong? I was using Ubuntu without any problem for last 6 months on my P4.

Install proprietary graphics driver. fglrx from Restricted Driver manager ;:)

Ok.
But I think there is no driver for HD 4200. Correct me if I am wrong.

Also, is it necessary that I install amd64 version of ubuntu? coz currently I have i386 version of ubuntu 9.04 installed.
and, which is better? 9.04 or 9.10? I have read on net that 9.10 is still buggy

AMD 64 version are for 64 bit processors and I believe all the new processors can do 64 bit processing.

I just downloaded the alternate cd for karmic, will be upgrading in 2-3 days from jaunty

Applications -> Ubuntu Software Center
Search for ATI in top right search box and install the "ATI Binary X.Org driver". Reboot and check.
