This is an amazing news. League of Legends (popularly known as LoL) players can now get a US athlete visa, if they play professionally, according to the US visa bureau. Riot Games, the developers of League of Legends, are really concentrating to make LoL a more competitively played game than Valve's DOTA2, and this move just might help some players choose which game to play competitively.

According to Riot Game' eSports Manager, Nick Allen - "So the United States government recognizes League of Legends pro players as professional athletes and award visas to essentially work in the United States under that title. This is groundbreaking for eSports; now we can start looking at international players when they come over. It’s a much easier process because they’re actually recognized by the government. This is a huge thing.

This was a lengthy process; we had a lot of people fighting for this. It wasn’t something that happened overnight.

The visa which Nick Allen is referring to is one for the "internationally recognized athletes" - which lets players stay in the USA for up to 5 years at a time.
