Questions about WiFi with Tikona

I will have Tikona installed at my home probably this evening. It will be a LAN connection. I need to have WiFi too so as to be able to use with my mobile phone (mainly Whatsapp). I know the simple solution is to buy a WiFi router. But I have these questions.

1. On scanning I can see that some Tikona WiFi signal is already available at my home. Can I just use it with my username and password? Will it work?

2. Is the phone seeing a WiFi network because of a neighbour's router and therefore it will work if his router is not secure but use up his data plan? I do not want to steal from him.

3. Can I use a WiFi router like Buffalo N150 WCR GN Broadband WIFI Router & Access Point or ASUS RT-N10 EZ N with the Tikona LAN input to provide a LAN connection to my desktop and WiFi for my mobile phone and a laptop?

4. As I understand, normally one needs to login to Tikona network from the LAN connected device. In this case my desktop. If I need to finally use a WiFi router, will I be able to use WiFi from my mobile phone without having to login from the desktop? In other words, can I just turn on the router and use WiFi from my mobile without switching on the desktop?

Did you do some checking before getting Tikona? AFAIK, its horrible.

Anyways, get a el cheapo router as you have mentioned. It ought ta work. Ask them for help. As for the wifi which you can see on you device, yes it should work, unless they have mac address binding?

^ Agree. I was under the impresssion OP wanted info on their service, but I guess it's too late. Tikona is pathetic to say the least. I hope you atleast got a demo to check the speeds.

As my stay in Pune and the home location is indefinite, I did not want a service that would tie me to a single place. That is why I went for netconnect+ to begin with. Unfortunately, though netconnect+ worked very well for me in Mumbai, in Pune it was unreliable at my residence.

I was considering Reliance BB among others. Finally, a friend of mine got Tikona and said it was good. I contacted them and found that many in my building had it. They gave me a demo and I was getting 1.3 mbps on speedtest.net. That was more than adequate for me.

For me the icing on the cake was when he agreed to waive the installation charges. Now I can kick Tikona out for poor performance without any monetary penalty. What do I lose?

BTW I think now they have MAC address binding.

Then the Tikona Wi-Fi you are seeing, is residue off someone else's router. You should buy a router and then try the PPoE method to log you into the page.
