PC Peripherals Ram Probelm

Well as some of you know i had bought a new 2x512 a month or so ago, at the time i installed it i ran a memtest for more then 12 hours & it was perfect, here is the screen shot of it.

4 days ago i did a windows reinstalltion, the same day my pc completely froze for the first time, at first i thought it was a virus/trojan, did 3 scans with 3 different anti virus & it was completely clean, later on that day it happened again but this time windows blue screen came up asking me if this was the first time then just restart your pc if not then make sure to check your memory in specific & update your video adapter ( :S ) i ignored that & restarted windows .. later on it froze again..so i ran memtest again & voilà it began showing me errors in ram... here are some of the errors i got.

So from my own experience i went & checked the ram sticks one by one, first i took 3 of them out & left only 1 (512mb) started the pc & at windows start-up he freezes , so i thought it was that stick, so i took it out & put a the new one in & the same happened, so i went & put the 2 old sticks in & the same happened ,put the 2 new ones & the same happens, i tried all combinations & unless i have all 4 of them in the pc it will simply not start (it will boot but at windows start up it will freeze).

What i also noticed with cpu-z is that performance mode was "disabled" when their was only 2 x512mb sticks (the screen shot was taken one day prior to adding the new ones)

But when the new 2x512mb was added performance mode was changed to "enabled"

What i also noticed is the old ones don't get fully recognized with cpu-z, it wont show the manufacturer nor the part number but with the new ones it does

Now the thing is , why doesn't the pc start with only one stick in it? & why was it working perfectly till now?

Is there any solution to it?i have heard alot of ram problems but i find mine to be the strangest of all..

Thnx in advance for your help & replies!

u beat me 2 it..i am having almost the same problems....since i got my new Ram stick..

Shows my performance mode as disabled also in CPU Z....

Pc freezes up suddenly and even a reboot wont help...

I have formatted and resinstalled windows just 2 days back and it isnt hapenning from the past 2 days...
Is this a ram problem....cause even i tested combinations but my pc works fine with either ram stick put in.....

Am checking it up hasnt been happening from last 2 days...so hopefully it was a virus...
Still i would like 2 know the reasons behind this...

You tried most of the steps, it seems one of your DIMM slots or your memory controller is at fault. Take the new 512 mb stick and insert it in all 4 DIMM's and check.

Out of Topic, running diff mem modules with 4 DIMM slots is gonna crop with some probs. 1 GB is more then enough for almost all applications.

Hmmm...... He has the same ram AFAIk
But the prob is really :S

Yup as Aces said, or if u can try ny faulty stick (as shown in ur Pc) nd try in sme othr PC

Well there are 2 new ones (like a month old) they were working fine till now, and i have tried all combinations.

They are not diffrent mate, they are all the same.

Thats what keeps me wondering over & over again why is this happening?

muhhaaaaaaa i was having similar probs but no one listened to me. now suffer. BTW i dont know whether my prob is solved now or not coz it is a bit unstable. BUT ever since i got the slipstreamed XP it is running better for me.

Do one thing download and burn the bootable Memtest version, load that and run the test to check if the OS aint creating the issue here.

Al:Exactly which ram modules do u have?
Have u tried relaxed or optimal timings in BIOS?
Try 3-4-4-8.
Use goldmemory tester, memtest is not all that reliable.

They are Crossair PC3200, i havent touched the bios, but i will sure check it out & wil also check goldmemory.

Its Corsair actually. Are all of them Corsair? If not then running at 3-4-4-8 will be a prudent step.

Yep all four of them are the same, they are running at default, i havent touched anything in regard to oc'ing them.

if your running memtest run it till it completes at least one pass.. think that takes about 20 mins. not sure about gold memory

Having all memory banks filled stresses the memory controller/modules leading to errors.U need to compensate by incresaing Vdimm or increasing latencies.
Run goldmemory, I repeat not memtest86, but goldmemory's 32-bit test,thats enough.
Entire test takes between 40-120 mins but is more reliable than 10 hours of memtest86.

Ok guys, check this out , i ran memtest & golden and they both give errors when more then 3 sticks are inside, i tested stick by stick in different slots & all of them show no error, windows will still not start with one stick inside or 2 inside unless its 4 sticks this babe wont open windows not even if bill gates is here, now this pc was running with 2x512mb before with no problem at all, can some1 explain to me what is wrong?
p.s. this is the most hilarious problem i have came across :P

smhow my problem is gone now..although i havent installed SP2 as yet...
i would suggest u try reinstalling windows again albert once more...:)
