Audio RE1 Vs Full-sized/open headphones

Hi ppl,

I mainly listen to metal,progressive rock,hindi,psychedelic trance in that order.
Already have a JVC RX 700 and a PL 30. I use the PL 30s while on the move and prefer the jvcs mainly for movies. I am thinking of getting the RE1s and will most probably sell off the RX 700s. I am not comfortable with the size and the bass seems a little over the top, not my taste :(. I prefer Koss Ksc75s to these for music.

With only regards to sound quality, which is my best bet ?
Can the RE1s outperform headphones within their price point unamped?

Well I have the RE1s and IMHO they dont sound great w/o and amp. They sound nice dont get me wrong but you wont be getting even 90% of their sound without amping them.

If you want to go unamped, the RE0 is a good bet as that is easier to drive. :)
 
IMHO the RE1 with out an amp is a bad choice.RE0 on the other hand sound good but they are kind of flat IEM's.I hated them big time as they sound upfront.
 
thanks for replies guys...i am itching to go for a grado sr60 now mainly because they sound great for metal,rock and I can easily drive them..

However, I dont want to go get them blindly before auditioning:S

PS:Anyone having Sr60/80 in Mumbai willing to let me audition the grados, please PM me..thanks :)
 
^^ Its doubtful since Grado is not available here and Grado bars sellers from shipping Grado headphones outside of countries where Grado is officially available. :(
