Monitors Recommend LCD

ok ive been browsing through te and all still it didnt solve my problem So here it is:

Im plannig to buy a new Lcd. i basically game a lot & watch movies Now the thing is i like to play all my games on high settings and with my modest config all new games only work upto 1280 at high (tht too with a bit of stuttering :P).
So wich lcd should i get to suit this. I saw a 19" widescreen monitor and it looked awesome. But i guess it only supports resolutions frm 1440 right??
I had viewsonic va 1912wb-3 in mind . but if i get this ill hve to play games at 1440 wich i dunt think my system can handle. So should i go for a 19" widescreen or a normal 17" lcd monitor?? I loved the widescreen , So wht kind of resolutions does the viewsonic va 1912wb-3 support lower than 1440??? and is it a good buy??
( also anyone hve ne idea whose the distributor for viewsonic in calcutta )

If your system can handle gaming @ 1280X960,it can handle @ 1440X900 also @ almost same frame rates.I have a 7600GT & my transition to 19" WS was smooth.

^^ 1280 x 960 is not a widescreen res. although a widescreen monitor will support this res the image will look stretched.

u can try playing on 1280 x 760 or 800. its pretty decent.
 
sorry I actually intended 1280X1024 on a general monitor.The perf @ 1280X1024 & 1440X900 is almost similar.
 
actually 1280x1024 has more pixels than 1440x900 ..... so it think performance will be better in 1440x900
