Would it be possible for my account name to be changed?

For obvious reasons I'd like to change my account name. It seems a little disrespectful to continue using this account name.

I know I made a mistake in choosing this account name, but is there a possibility that the account name can be changed?

usually name changes, if done are done as a batch, and once in a blue moon. Wait patiently for the mods to put up the next name change thread.
