I will most probably moving to Bangalore from next month. I will be enrolling in a course at the CDAC Knowledge Park (http://goo.gl/maps/7PjZ9). [The institute is just beside the Baiyappanahalli Metro station]

I was overjoyed when I saw that there is an EVDO connection in Bangalore. I need to find accomodation someplace near to my institute and where I will get the signal of an EVDO tower.

Here is an old list of BTS locations in Bangalore - http://www.bsnlevdoclub.com/2010/11/view-bsnl-evdo-towers-in-bangalore-on.html [Map] and http://www.bsnlevdo.in/bsnl-evdo-news/bsnl-bts-coverage-in-bangalore/ [list of locations]

If someone could suggest some places where there are a lot of mess/hostel accommodation at cheap rates and on the metro line and is near to any BTS(1-2KM radius), it would help me immensely.

The areas near the metro line are kinda expensive. Maybe you can try places near Ulsoor.

You should look along the Outer Ring Road, K.R.Puram to Marathalli section. CDAC is easily accessible from these areas by bus.

@NinByChoice I have heard a lot about the very famous Bangalore traffic. Among the above, which place will be the best one to stay in?

How far is Viviani Road from the institute? A few of my friends are living there. Just want to know how long will I take to reach the institute at 9am on a weekday.

@hotshot05 Viviani Road is around 18km from Byappanahalli. You will be spending a lot of time travelling if you pick to stay there. K.R. Puram looks like the best bet.

@blkrb0t, @Chaos, @NinByChoice If you guys could tell me the average rent in those areas(per head), I would be very happy. Don't want to be taken for a ride.

Can someone suggest some options for Internet connectivity?
I will be staying there for 6-8 months; so don't want anything permanent and the setup cost should be as low as possible. If they give the equipment on rent, that will be the best option.
Low speed unlimited connection would be great. But affordable, limited data transfer connections would also do.
Budget for internet - Rs.500 - 750 per month.

KR Puram would be cheap for staying, so would be Rammurthy Nagar, Kalyan Nagar and Kaggadasapura and these places will be very near to the Baiyappanahalli Metro station.

^ These are good areas to stay. You can add Kasturi Nagar to the list.

Marathalli to CDAC should be ~30mins by Volvo bus.

Look for a PG. Start from ~3k/mo for shared rooms.

By the way, the OP has decided the budget of internet plans, but hasn't even told the budget he has in mind for the rent

Hehe, internet above anything else.

More concerned with the next season of Castle, Person of Interest, Game of Thrones and final season of Nikita :D

Kaggadaspura and cv raman Nagar do not have proper direct connectivity with metro station by bus. I think there is 1 metro feeder that I have seen sometimes.

Distance to metro will be between 4-8 kms based on where your stay in that area. Auto wallas will ask minimum of rs. 50 to go to nearest metro station which is bayappanhalli.

Rent for 1bhk will be 6k and upwards. For 2bhk 9k and upwards. Lot of places nearby for food and regular stuff.

No act broadband in the area :( Airtel is the best in the area.

If you are going to stay for 6-8 months, go for PG accommodation -- that would be Rs. 3000 - 6000 depending on the facilities and locality. Security deposit is 1/2 months rental. Single occupancy would cost you more. The alternative is shared accommodation as a roommate.

Rented house will cost you a lot as there's 9-10 months of security deposit involved, which you won't get immediately while leaving. And the owner will deduct one month's rent as maintenance charges and some penalty amount for not staying as per the contract period of 11 months.

For internet connectivity, in most of the places you will be limited by Airtel or Hathway so it's better to check with existing residents of the area.
ACT coverage is scarce: http://acttv.in/index.php/products/act-broadband

For transportation, get a second hand two-wheeler, which you can sell off before leaving the city.

Plans of Hathway do not look too bad.

I thought that Bangalore had a full fledged Metro line. But yesterday, I came to know that there are only 4 metro stations!!! And after that, I got to know about the arbitrary fare charged in the auto. :(

Will Indira Nagar be very costly? Seniors who have studied here are recommending this. I hope there will be regular metro connectivity here.

Also can someone point me to a magazine called Admag? Their site says "transfer limit exceeded". Is there any way I can get my hands on the listing provided in this newspaper?[DOUBLEPOST=1374639292][/DOUBLEPOST]@onlyravi Check your PM

Indira Nagar will be pretty costly. Rents for 2bhk flats usually are upwards of 20k or so. So even if that is shared between 4 guy, you are looking at 5k for rent only.

CV Raman Nagar should be near enought, but commute will be via auto, or else look around KR Puram.
Metro connectivity is from mg road to Baiyappanahalli. That area you will get service, but beyond that you will have to fall back on buses.

Indiranagar is a posh area. Jeevanbeema nagar, tippasandara are next to Indiranagar and are not as costly, but are far from OMR. Rammurty nagar, Kasturi nagar are good areas and will be reasonably priced. Also, if you intend to stay in bangalore for 6-8 months, get yourself a bike. 8 months, you will lose half your hair to auto guys....remaining half will be taken by hard water :)

Regards,

For KR Puram, will there be direct bus connectivity? And how long does it take to reach CDAC from there? I have heard a lot of wonderful things about the Bangalore traffic o_O
