Laptops Rs.2000/- difference in same HP laptop's price?

Hi.

I went to nehru place. Want to buy a notebook in 42-52Krange. My req: 15"screen, Core2Duo preferably.
There was only one Pavilion model in that range!! it was HP 6767. But it was way too heavy (~3KG). That apart, there was a difference of 2000/- in prices offered by 2 side-by-side stores!!

The costlier price was quoted by "the only authorised HP showroom in nehru place", Computer Land (~54K excluding vat). He told me that many(including dimension sells fake lappys) :S

Then i went to dimension next infocom who offered same thing in 52K(including vat). :S I asked him abt price diff. he said that he does wholesale selling so lower price. Thing is, this shop was looking like he was repairing the lappys himself with screwdrivers, etc lying haywire. I asked him if he was authorised seller, her said yes but refused to show his authorisation certi when asked to. Now i was clearly biased against him.
My question is-
1)is he really selling fake? If yes in what sense? Fake battery etc.?
2)Also which shop should i buy from now?
3)Suggest me a laptop for 42-52K range. (Main usage will be business like portablity. No nvidia reqd.)

Wherever you buy from take a software like everest or something, and check if all the major spec match the models original specs..

thats one way to be fool proof..!!!!

ok.. the first thing -- 1) all compaq/hp shpwrooms have an agreement with the company that they will not sell the product below the marked price. On that they'll add a 4% tax and 2500/- extra for some recovery disk shit.

2) most small shops source their products direct from the distributors. once u have told them abt what u want, they'll call up the distributor and ask them if they have the model with them. when u have said yes to a product they'll ask the distributor to send it to them. u will basically be getting the stuff directly frm the hp/compaq distribution outlet. not the shop... and the stuff will be packed and sealed.

3) it doesn't really matter where ur buying ur laptop frm. the shop will not give u any after sales service -- not even authorised showrrom. all services will be given by the hp service center at okhla.

4) the celeron 1.86 compaq laptop that has a price tag of 24,000 on the HP site costs 29,900 in the same showroom (i was hunting for a lappy myself 3 weeks ago). so u can imagine that point no. 1 is not to be taken lightly.

5) i can recommend a shop to u in nehru place frm where i got my laptop frm.

Clutec solutions

104, saraswati house, nehru place

Ph. 4139 5530, 4139 5367

and please, please bargain with the guy and if u don't really require the free headset, mouse etc say so (Rs 500 off), and if u don't want the bag say so (Rs 1000 off)

good luck.

PS: there's nothing such as fake laptops. that's one of those 'first-thing-that-came-to-the-mind-to-retain-a-customer-and-drive-him-away-from-the-next-store' thing.

Thanks pause, you cleared some doubts. One more thing: what if the SMALL SHOP has put a pirated(shorter life) battery & then himself packed, sealed the notebook package? & then if i get home & realize that notebook is giving 1.5hrs instead of said 3hrs...& then i take it to service centre & centre says "hey ur battery is not original. We cant do anything". then?

i doubt anyone would try that. hes selling u something worth 50k :P if he tries to make like 1-2 on the side, its his rep that l suffer ;)

nz, to confirm, tell him that u want a sealed piece. n check the box seals urself wen u open it :) hp will have their own seals on it. difficult t pirate those :D

So true

the guy seems to have been confused between software n hardware tho :P

no showroom will sell u stuff cheap, a std comp dealer will be able to get the same for you much cheaper.

wat i do is, goto the showroom, look at all the models on display, check out which one u like, n then goto a regular dealer and bargain :ohyeah:

:D thats what i do too.

anyways, remember what i said earlier -- the shop will not have any laptops. most of the shops r too small to have an inventory. they'll directly source it frm the distributors. do check the seal. there are multiple seals.

1) the seal on the box

2. the seal on the individual parts (the laptop, batteries etc); the laptop is sealed in a plastic cover which has a seal which once removed cannot be put back.

and in any case, don't fret abt someone giving u a fake battery. nobody does that sort of thing. shops in nehru place thrive on recommendations.

get it from SMC re , tell him the mdoel number and he will get it or cost to cost , tell him to match the price :) he will do so :) . make sure u go in the morning not in a weekend to get the bet deal.
