As said earlier this card has low bit bus which cannot properly utilise the 1gb ram.
So if you need a card which has 2gb or more ram you are better of with a 68xx or 69xx series card. (xx for 50,70)
Those have 256 bit rambus which optimises the vram to the fullest .
No I am not arguing 2gb or 1gb or 512mb is better but I need to choose the best card for my bug and setup.I would be happy if you give detail answer to my first post in this thread

I am also looking to buy 5670 but I got a quote of Rs.4500 for ddr3 and Rs.5200 for ddr5 from my local dealer .I thought ddr5 is the only way to go (around 20 percent performance difference) but you people are talking there is no much difference between these two.@ameet what do you mean by higher resolution 1080p or more.

I have 1600x900 resolution monitor, intel dual core processor (2.5ghz),2gb ddr2 ram, single hard disk, disconnected dvd drive ( will connect whenever I need to fresh install os or some special situation),not willing to overclock neither processor nor gpu and my ups conditioning the power to certain extent still do I need high efficient psu (I have generic zebronics 450w).

value buyer go for 5670 ddr3 version. No problem at all. :) I hope thats the simplest answer.

Thank you but is there any benchmark ddr3 vs ddr5 version of 5670.I could not find any reliable benchmark related to ddr3 version of 5670 almost all sites posting results of ddr5 only.

1)DDR5 version of the HD5670 offers little to no performance gain over GDDR3 version. Whatever difference that can be seen will probably be more apparent on higher resolutions, but the HD5670 is not exactly meant to be a card for said resolutions. It depends upon what kind of games you play too.

Rubbish..the DDR5 version will give you at minimum 15% better performance than the DDR3 version. If you're buying the DDR3 version you may as well buy a 5650 or a 5570.

2)182 was the absolute load for the first reference design long ago. im just giving him the worst case scenario. even with that the vip may manage. The psu is not recommended though.

Are you nuts? The 5670 was always rated at 75w or below. It never had an external power connector, and was fed power only through the pci-e bus, hence the 75w power limit.

3)AMD recommended a 400w power supply for the 5670, and they probably knew that most people buy generic psus. While running a system on a low end power supply isn't a good idea, I don't see a problem running your friends system on a VIP 500w psu. Especially a new one.

I got an idea to refer benchmark result of ddr3 version 6570 since I heard it is almost equivalent to 5670 so if we find out 6570 performance that is almost equivalent to the result of 5670 (ddr3) but there is no luck.I don’t know amd itself purposely doing this by sending ddr5 version of card to benchmark and realworld we could get ddr3 for most of the basic cards.

It seems he mistakenly understood total system power consumption (while using 5670) given in benchmarking sites like anandtech as its individual power consumption.

DDR3 memory is alright for cards under the 5K budget. The memory only minimally affects performance, the GPU itself is far more important than GDDR3 or GDDR5.

GDDR5 is quad pumped so its transfer rates are twice as high as DDR3, so if a GDDR5 card has a 128 bit bus and a DDR3 card has a 256 bit bus their memory bandwidth will be basically identical.

just wait few days more then upgrade to AMD APU will satify all ur gaming and computing need.
We are discussing about how to spend Rs.4000-5000 but you are giving an idea to spend more than Rs.12k :(

DDR5 will give you a performance boost os if it comes at just 100 bucks more then go for it. 5670 cannot consume more than 80W.

As for the PSU I've been using a VIP Gold 500W since April 2007 it's 4 years now and it has never ever given me any problem. I'm running 4 X HDDs, 4 X Fans, 8600GT(90W with OC), E6550(120W), XFX n650iUL(60W), 1 X DvDRW and 4 X DDR2 cl4 Sticks @ 2.21. I've made sure that my mains never ever give impure power using a pure-sine wave AVR hence my SMPS has lasted so long. Along with the stabilizer I make it a routine to service my config after every 6 months so maintenance is also very important.

Actually VIP 500W Gold was my last choice but had to get it due to unavailability of VX450 or Antec 430W EarthWatts .

AMD's A8 APUs didn't do as well as I thought they'd do (REVIEW). But still it's a great effort from AMD.

Guys I got 5670 512mb ddr5 for my friend from primeabgb at 4.2K delivered home
wow that's cool.If you don't mind, just do a small review about hands on and performance of that card in the review section.

Get the 512 MB GDDR5 version. 1GB wont benefit from a GPU like 5670. Moreover faster memory would aid better performance especially at resolutions lower than full HD, where GPU isnt fully bottle necked. If the 512 MB GDDR5 version is available for 4.2k, nothin better than that. Also GDDR5 version should consumes slightly less power.

What is the dealers purchase cost of gpu from my local dealer I could not negotiate whenever I ask for discount he is showing some price list in his laptop and telling me that is his purchasing cost mostly he is quoting Rs.200 above the price shown in his laptop (though I don't believe much these things I could not negotiate with him for price reduction).I hope they will get around 30% profit margin. So I guess the dealers purchase price for this card is Rs.4000.I like to hear from you because you are so close to your dealer.

cant really comment on the purchase price..... I never ask him. Its understood that they keep almost 400 to 500 margin in sapphire 5670 (in this case) and they quote almost 800 more, since they know that user gonna negotiate further, so they reduce more 200 and sell it.... all in all they get the profit which is decided....purchase price might well be below 4000 for sure
