Graphic Cards Sapphire X800 GTO2 woes

Hi All,

I have just got back from UK and have got myself a Sapphire X800 GTO2.

This is the summary of what has happened since then:

I installed the card and tried to start my computer. But it didn't start. I removed the card and then tried again then also it didn't start. I thought my mobo was fried. I took it to my vendor but it was the PSU (300W) which was the problem. My vendor changed the PSU to Microtek 325W and I came back home. I installed the card and again it didn't start but thankfully this time the computer started after removing the card.

After reading on this forum about the PSU's. I got myself a ColorSit 450W PSU from NP which has 19A on 12v rail. But again this one also doesn't work.

My PC just doesn't start when I put the card. Although it starts when I remove the power cable from the card but then it gives the error saying that power cable should be connected for the card to work.

Has anyone else has faced this problem? I don't know will it work or not after getting a more powerful PSU like antec, coolermaster. Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Tarun

Well, i do think that the 450W PSU should be enuf..

In the BIOS, there should be a setting, PCI/PCI-e or PCI-e/PCI Graphics..

As in PCI first then PCI-e or vice versa, make sure the latter is selected.

I have done that already. As I wrote above that the PC doesn't start (The power doesn't come up) when I plugin the card and put the power supply in it.

325 should be less, get quality 400 - 450 or more, quality means antec or coolermaster at the least, better still neo or igreen of these companies

@ Techboy, READ, he got a 450W Colosit.. And ive run a X800XL, and OC'ed D 820 (upto 3.73 Ghz) on a 350W VIP, 16A Single 12V Rail PSU.

yeah first try it on another P..test it out and find out if the card has a problem...
or else try flashing the mobo bios to a newer version ...that might work though its a long shot ... first test if the card is fine on another comp :)

and yeah
Stupid question, but Should crosscheck..

Are you plugging in the Monitor to the card?
er if people were that dum they wouldnt know how to sign up for TE  :P

Have you tried any other PCIe card in your mobo ???

If you dont have access to another PCIe mobo or PCIe card then do this... Disconnext everything from the mobo... And only connect necessary equipments i.e. Mobo+ CPU + RAM + PSU + GFX Card and try powering on the system...

I hope you arent getting four continious beeps... Cause when that happenes then either the card is not properly seated on the slot or the card is dead... The best way to be sure is talking everything out of the Cabby and testing it over a flat surface... This has worked for me n number of times while sorting out loads of issues...

I read it on the forums about ColorSit that it has false ratings? How true is that?

I am also thinking of testing it on any other PC. But I don't know anyone who has got good power supply (None of my friends are into gaming and stuff :(). Perhaps if you guys could help me out in testing the card. I would really appreciate that. Since I bought the card from UK I don't have anyway to go to the vendor to check the card :(

Switch: I have tried that...taking everything out...removed power cables to hdd/floppy/cd...I took out one piece of DIMM out of two...removed all other PCI cards...then also it didn't work...

I am not getting any beep sounds...the PC just doesn't start (the power doesn't come up...the smps fan/cpu fan doesn't start)..until I remove the card or power supply from the card

There are no bents or missing pins. If I don't supply the power to the card then it displays an error on the monitor saying "You need to connect the power to the card etc" but if I supply the power to the card the PC doesn't power on.

uve already changed 2 PSUs but the first two were near useles...and like u said there might be an issue with ur current PSU having wrong ratings which i do sincerely doubt...but check with another PSU anyway...

ur going to have to do narrow it down meaning

1 check the card at someones place or some other way

2 try another PSU...

3. if that doesnt work then check the motherboard...if motherboard is fine with some other card then try flashing a neweer bios

if all of this doesnt work then go back to the UK get another card :|
